If you focus on what you left behind, you will never be able to see what lies ahead

So after I've digested everyone's suggestions and information from earlier today, I went back over to check out the registration for a half once more time. How would I get runDisney's URL address from February 2016's Princess run(s)? I just don't want to risk the time being unverified.
Ok go to this address
http://trackshackresults.com/disneysports/results/pr/pr16/10k_results.php
Then search for your bib number or you can select what categoty you fall into from the pull down menu, when the results pop up copy the address bar and paste it into the spot on Active. If you are having trouble and wanna give me your bib number I can get it and send you the link, we can do it over PM if you don't want it out there for everyone to see. I hope that helps!

I also haven't gone much over 20 in training for my marathons. I am a Galloway runner, so his plans do call to go to 26, but each of my training seasons have had some issues that prevented me from being able to go that far in training. My plan this year is to follow that training schedule more faithfully, but I've managed to complete 4 marathons without doing more than 21 max in a training run. I do think though that Galloway's schedule doesn't call for as many weekly miles as a lot of plans do and instead he loads up more on the long runs, so that's also something to consider. Total weekly mileage can do a lot to make up for not-quite-as-long long runs.
Thanks for your insight! I did Galloway for Darkside and Tink because I wanted to be 100% sure I was going to finish. But I felt I was burnt out by the end. With his marathon training being so long I was hoping a shorter more intense schedule would be a better fit for me but there's still that voice inside my head that says you won't be prepared if you only get to 20. Reading everyone's experience helps me have more confidence in my plan :thanks:

Morning, sorry! Got busy at work and then even busier at home afterwards yesterday. I'm gonna try this today and if I have trouble I'll get back with you to see if you can help my technology inept self. Thanks!

Last night was my first run post Darkside and it went great! I did a 5k. My times were right were I wanted them to be and I had negative splits for the last 2 miles. I probably pushed myself harder than I should of. Next run I will probably back off so I don't injure myself this close to Tink! When I start running I get super competitive with myself and always feel the need to do better than last time even when I know I suppose to be taking it easy. I'm so excited for Tink and at the same time I am anxious to start speed work when I get home.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Mine will be busy busy with the kid's activities, a long run and hopefully the MK on Sunday!

Congrats on signing up for Goofy! That's going to be so much fun. I'll add that for my last Disney Marathon Weekend my long run maxed at 16 miles. I like to think of running in time more than mileage, and I personally cap my long run at 2.5 hours. But if you participate in run/walk, I've seen it suggested by Coach Jack Daniels that the long run would be capped at 4 hours.

That's interesting, and I can see how it would be a good approach to training. So if you take that approach do you try to cover more miles in that time? Like if I wanted to do a half in 2:30 I would run for just 2:30 and try to speed up each run to eventually get in the miles necessary? I hope that makes sense.

I like to think of training in cycles. In any given 12-18 week cycle there is a limit on the physical gains you can make. I typically set the paces that I will train at for the upcoming cycle based on my best race from the last cycle. The paces I choose are based on a formula from Hansons that provide pacing from runs ranging from speed workouts to easy workouts. Once I set the paces for a cycle the paces are locked for the next 12-18 weeks unless I am seriously faltering on being able to finish the runs. If I am feeling good, that doesn't allow me to start training faster within a cycle.

As cycles have passed, I've gotten faster which changes the paces I train at. Thus, the 2.5 hour run for me has gone from 15 miles to 16 miles and recently to 17 miles. So my viewpoint on training is to view each workout more on the pace prescribed and the time elapsed then the actual mileage finished (mileage is just a by-product or said in another way "pace X time = mileage"). In the last three cycles (June 2015-October 2015, October 2015-January 2016, and January 2016-May 2016), the time I have spent training has been almost identical. But the mileage I've run during each cycle has gotten successively longer, because the paces I train at have become faster.

So for me, I first set my paces for training based on the last cycle that I'll use for the next 12-18 weeks. Then, I'll choose how long I want to train on any given day. Next, I'll space out my hard workouts with either 1 or 2 easy/rest days between. Lastly, I'll figure out the mileage I'll finish on a day.

Thanks for taking the time to post that! I enjoy reading different training plans and trying to see how I can use them to benefit my training.

My long run this weekend ending up being very interesting. The plan was 8 miles. On the way to our usual paved running trail, we decided to try somewhere new. That was our first mistake. Well actually the first and biggest mistake was going out in the heat of the day. I live in Florida and I shouldn't take running in the heat so lightly. When we got to the new trail the first mile ended up being in the woods, which was good for the shade but the ruts and roots made it impossible to run at a decent pace. After we got out of the woods the sun was brutal. At 2 miles I was so upset. My pace was slowing and I just didn't want to be out there anymore. Then DH starts screaming like I've never heard before. So I turn around and he says you almost stepped on that rattlesnake!! I'm like ummm what? I look back and sure enough there's a Pygmy Rattler in the path that I just ran!! So that put a further damper on things. When we got to 2.56 miles I was done. We decided it was just not our day and turned around and walked back. To top it off when we got home I found 3 ticks on me :crazy2: So while it was not the best day for running, I learned some very valuable lessons. :rotfl:

This week my training is going to be more relaxed. I'm thinking I'm going to strength train today, Wednesday and Friday and run 3 miles on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Sunday will be a rest day.

Oh my gosh! We saw a small snake on our running trail this weekend too. I'm not a snake specialist, but I really think it was a rattler too. The pattern on it certainly appeared that way!! Eek.

Sorry you had a bad run. Sometimes they just happen and sometimes it's better to just surrender to a bad one and pack it in. Often after I have a bad one though, the next one goes really well. Hope that happens for you too.

Last night I had a much better run! I am still messing with my intervals. Last night I did a 3/1 but I had been doing a 2/1. My times last night were 12:50, 12:20 & 12:00. I am super happy that my splits were negative. After my 5k PR in January I have been sliding backwards and getting frustrated but I think I am finally pulling out of that funk.

I am so ready for Tink to get here! I finally got around to ordering a gold sparkly skirt to wear and now I just need to figure out a top. I was thinking about a gold top and being pixie dust (I could even wear my yellow/gold rundisney shoes I just got). But gold running tops aren't so easy to find. I am such a procrastinator. LOL I have a good excuse. Other than having 5 kids(do I need any other excuse :rotfl: ), I had to get ready for Darkside. I don't think I will do wings they just seem like such a pain. I wore a hood for my Kylo Ren outfit and my shoulders were killing me by the end. Anyone have any ideas?

I have had two runs since my last post and both went well.

Thursday DS9 decided he wanted to join me. I was really surprised he wanted to run that night. He has been talking about doing a race with DH and I, but he has never wanted to train. I refuse to take him to a race without training because I am afraid he will quit and then hate running. He has Aspergers and is pretty rigid so he is not strong in sports. I think running would be great for him because he doesn't have to think too much about what to do or be nervous that he is letting anyone else down. We ran 3 miles and he did really good keeping up with me. Our miles were 12:44, 12:48 and 13:56. He was having trouble at the end and we switch up the intervals to a 2:1. He told me after we got home that he wants to train with me and run a race in June!

I cross trained Friday night with a workout for runners and then Saturday I took the day off.

Last night I did a second run in my outfit for Tinker Bell with DH. It was so hot!! I cannot wait for California weather! Earlier in the week I downloaded the Strava app and was so excited to use it (I love it). We ran 3 miles again, using intervals of 3:1, with my mile times being 12:33, 12:40 and 12:44. I am pretty happy with that pace right now. On the run we talked about how to go about getting faster and trying to think of a running plan for the summer. I think I have an idea of what I want to do, on the flight out to Tink I am going to sit down with a calendar and put it in writing.

For Tink I wasn't going to say a goal out loud but now I am thinking if I do then I will have more of a reason to push harder to obtain it. So my goal is going to be 3:00. Taking 17 minutes off Darkside. That is a pace of 13:44, I think that should be no problem.

My schedule for this upcoming week is going to be crosstrain Mon., Wed and run on Tuesday. We leave Wednesday for DL!!!!

Sounds like some successful training runs. How fun that your son wanted to run with you! My daughter is 12 and is running cross country and wants to run some with us, so we need to make that happen for her.

YAY for leaving for Disney in a couple of days!! So jealous.

DS ran with me again tonight, I am so proud that he is sticking with his goal! But It was a sad run for me, he decided to open up to me about his classmates at school not being so nice to him. He doesn't usually talk about that kind of thing but tonight he poured his heart out. It was so painful to listen to him tell me he doesn't have anybody to talk to at school :sad1: The worse part is I had no real answers for him...

So tomorrow is the big day that I have been planning for what seems like forever! We leave for Tink! We are flying into Las Vegas for the night and then driving to DLH on Thursday. The excitement is turning into stress now, I still haven't packed!!!!
