Mid-July Cruising?

We're booked for July 18th out of Galveston but with 95% vaccination required and us having 2 kids < 16 years old guessing won't happen for us.

I know many just want to get on a ship but no way in the world would I go on a sailing this July with the latest CDC guidelines.

For my wife and I (fully vaccinated) to sit on a pool deck, distanced from other guests, wearing masks is insanity. We're not currently booed until November and those guidelines are supposed to expire in october but if they aren't dropped before or by then, no way are we going to sail.

I just don’t understand why being outside without a mask (as long as you can be 6 ft apart) on land is not a problem... but it’s not okay when you are outside on a cruise ship.

I don't think Royal will go through with the cruises in July and early august out of the US. I think with the new CDC guidelines they will have too many cancel or lift and shift for it to be worth it for them to run them. Plus, the guidelines seem quite difficult if they are to have a full ship - the CDC really pulled out all the stops to try to discourage cruising for the time being it seems.

Simple answer is...it isn't a problem on the ship either. Hence, our frustration.

Agree...they basically gave the middle finger to the entire industry. Oh, you want to sail, here you go....sail away

From the info coming out from the conference today, looks like the brand new Odyssey of the Seas will sail 6 night Western Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale, starting in July -- The maiden public sailing. (This was the one that was going to start in Israel at the first of June, but pulled out). Originally Odyssey was supposed to start last November. You can book for later in the year for it, but they may be moving it up to July.

Another sign July is likely a go (at least for some sailings) The Vision of the Seas sailings leaving from Bermuda were just cancelled today,

"While the past few weeks have certainly been tumultuous, we remain encouraged and excited about our progressive return to sailing. Recent conversations have led to promising movement for the cruise industry and are the necessary steppingstones to get Royal Caribbean® back to what we do best – delivering the most memorable vacation experiences to both you and your clients!

As a result of these developments, the likelihood of cruises setting sail from the U.S. this summer is greater each day, and with that, U.S. travelers are increasingly showing a preference for more direct access to ports of departure. Regrettably, the decision has been made to cancel Vision of the Seas®’ summer season from Bermuda. While we are no longer homeporting from Bermuda, we still look forward to visiting the beautiful island nation with several ships across the Royal Caribbean fleet as we have for many years. We continue to work in close partnership with the Ministry of Transport and the Bermuda Tourism Authority towards our common goal of reviving local tourism as part of our larger return to service scope. "

Not good news for anyone committed to flying out to Bermuda, but this indicates they really think July is a go in the US. Adventure out of the Bahamas still is going, though, it seems.

No...not good news for me. I was booked on the July 3 sailing on Vision. Fortunately, I used Royal Caribbean for my air as well so everything is being fully refunded. Still a bummer though! Now if only I could figure out what to do with those vacation days!!! :-)

Maybe they can reassign your money to a different reservation?

Royal put out the requirements for the July/August sailings.

Also, this is cool, Adventure of the Seas was in Port Canaveral yesterday to get the crew vaccinated, and the cruise director (Hugo Arenas) is there getting things ready and dropped a quick message for those starting out on the June 12th sailing out of Nassau:

While I do have other reservations, they are all already paid in full using previous Future Cruise Credits. I am not too worried about it, I booked the air through Royal using their $149 promo and the cruise was a casino comp so I only had to pay taxes & port fees which are not transferrable anyway.

I know that plenty of folks that paid good money for these Bermuda cruises are super frustrated with Royal, and they certainly have a right to be, I am just used to it by now as it is my 16th cancellation!! :-)

Ok, I'm really happy that it hasn't been a huge financial loss to you as flights to Bermuda can be quite expensive. Same for the cruise.

Still... Having to re-do trips sucks. I've done that 6 times already since the beginning of the pandemic. When it's not a cruise cancellation, it's a flight cancellation or a change of schedule that will make me miss my cruise or is simply departing before I even get of the ship.
