Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

That’s much more of a safety issue than a legal issue. If a CM “lashes out” in many cases it will result in escalating the situation. The more escalated a situation the more likely violence will ensue.

Bingo. I work in IT. Sometimes I deal with upset customers sometimes for reasons outside of my control. The last thing you want to do is get angry back. Best to be calm and cool and collected.

Now sometimes you cannot give them the answer they want which may be common for CMs. "I'm sorry sir but you cannot leave that stroller there" and if the guest gets upset the CM needs to be firm "no. You must move the stroller" but that is not the same as lashing out. Stay Calm. Stay cool but star firm that this is the rule and you neeed to comply.

And yet, the safest place for a child to be while social distancing is probably ... in their own stroller.

Surely they will consider the stroller parking. Maybe you’ll drop off & pick up from a CM. Maybe there will be designated spots and you leave it with a CM if there’s overflow. They’ll figure something out.
Stroller Valet? 😂

I wasn’t saying they should lash out in every scenario, but there are times where having guests spit in your face, punch you in the face, call you names degrading you, it shouldn’t be brushed over and wait until security shows up 20 minutes later. There are certain situations where it’s not just guest on cast member interaction, there’s a human being in the cast member uniform. There’s no other place in the country that has employees that are more of a punching bag than Disney cast members. Arguing, complaining about how much money you spent on an unfulfilled magical trip is one thing, but there’s a limit.

It takes <5 seconds for a lashing out, no matter how deserved, to result in a punch in the face and potential group brawl. It could be a few minutes before under covers/security arrives and a lot of damage can be done by then. Under no circumstance is that the right call. Sticks and stones, you know? Guest can be the guest from Hell and the CM must remain calm literally for their own safety.

If it takes 20 minutes for security to show up then that is the problem. A CM with issues like that should be able to escalate to security/manager quickly. The CM should be able to say "Let me escalate and get somebody here to help you" and have security there is 1-2 minutes. The CM (especially somebody like in the CP) shouldn't have to deal with it and should be able to quickly get backup/.

Would you remain calm while someone else’s spit is running down your face, or after you get punched in the face?

The parking and retrieving situation is where, I think, social distancing will be hard to achieve.

Where would they have space to valet strollers?

If somebody is punched in the face that is beyond what a CM should be dealing with. That is security that should be there and "escort" that person out of the park.

But there was a CM that was punched in the face at ToT last year, and it took 10 minutes for security to arrive on scene, and the guest wasn’t arrested.

That is wrong on both fronts. The supervisor on the side should be the one to restrain the guy while security gets there and he should be kicked out and charged.

What the heck? I’m advocating for why CMs don’t “lash out” at guests for not following rules- not for being physically assaulted. Sheesh! The point is to prevent escalation. In rare cases, not an option. If the guest escalates to punching a CM or spitting on them? OMG. Security time plus the guest can be arrested by real police and charged with assault if the person assaulted so chooses.

My only issue with the "At capacity" thing is the whole month hit capacity the same day and time? If it was really capacity wouldn't some days hit capacity first and some be open? I think it is just something easy to have CMs say to people for now and something hard for guests to argue with.
If they plan to try to open at all, I think it’s more they’re not sure what they have just yet as far as what they’ll let in the parks so they stopped taking reservations til the figure out exactly what capacity will be.

When it’s very busy and parking is full, the CM organizing strollers will often take your stroller and park it for you. This already happens. Of course, they’d have to also have a system for picking it up.

I’m just saying, I don’t know what the solution will be - only letting a certain number of people in the parking area at a time, having CMs assist with parking and retrieval, etc. I don’t think it will be overlooked and I do think they will implement a system or protocol so people aren’t all jammed in a parking area at the same time.

HOW??!!! At least every other day over an embarrassing amount of trips I have heard this in the parks or at the hotels or on the transport.

obviously you find the happy spots of Disney parks. Can you be my Disney Park Yoda?
LOL, well, seen plenty of frustration, but everyone keeps their cool generally speaking. Guests playing the role of park security is what I mostly see, which upsets other guests.

The one time that I was the most annoyed (random personal story at AK) was when on my first trip to Animal Kingdom, it didn't open early (which was fine), then I get in the line for Navi River Journey and the ride was broken right away at rope drop for 40 minutes. To me that seemed strange how can a ride not be ready by opening...anyway, so we get on the ride and its the most under-whelming ride of all time, I was crushed by the experience, I was mopey for a while but that quickly turned to delight after Expedition Everest.

Perhaps I find my happy place with others on thrill rides, not a sad face on thrill rides...ever.

I’m not saying they should lash out if a guest is venting. If the guest starts whining about how the CM ruined their trip for not allowing them to cut the line at FOP that the CM should throw the guest to the ground. I’m also not saying the CM should ever initiate the escalation. But there’s a reason these incidents continue to happen, and have become more aggressive, and it’s because these CMs are trained to get beaten to the ground by guests with words, or physicality and aren’t supposed to defend themselves.

Exactly. It’s easier to cap it and adjust. There’s no saying that they can’t and won’t reopen resorts for reservations in mid to late June if they’re able to bring more people in. They can’t exactly do the opposite of that, overbook by filling resorts and then having to cancel those people’s reservations because they didn’t account for capacity, but still allow other people to stay at the resort. Cancelling peoples reservations looks worse on a company than capping reservations and not allowing any new reservations.

I find it interesting that everyone seems to have a different breaking point in which they would decide to cancel a trip. For some it’s no pools, for others it’s no TS. Some would cancel if masks are required while others may cancel if they aren’t. Etc. Etc.

For me I think it would be the mask requirement, if nighttime shows were cancelled, and to a lesser degree if there is no TS. I understand that Disney will do whatever they need to do to give both CMs and guests a feeling of safety. If I’m going to spend $6k for my family of 5, my choice would be to postpone our trip until a time when things are more “normal”.

I’m not really getting the potential issue with stroller parking? If anything the worst part would be the CM’s touching everyone’s handles rearranging the strollers. The lots are full of strollers not people, distancing would be fine I think.

I’m going to tell you exactly what will happen. Kids are going to get hot with their mask on for several hours straight in Florida heat. They will cry and get upset. Mom and dad will get sick of the complaining and let the kid take the mask off. Then the CMs says the kid has to put the mask back on. Then it turns into a fight. The parents stand their ground. The CMs give up. Then other people see kids not wearing a mask. So they take it off their kids. Then the adults see the kids not wearing masks and start taking it off. Then the mask-lovers all get upset that people not wearing masks aren’t being roughed up and kicked out.

Meanwhile, security is too busy at the front of the park touching everyone’s bags with the same gloved hand.

This mask policy will be the worst mistake Disney ever made. It’s going to cause tons of problems.
