Okay.... now that we have everyone's attention. I am starting the new thread.
There has been discussiona bout having a Dis Meet in the Toronto area and we have been throwing a whole bunch of ideas out. Anyone with other suggestions are more than welcome to shoot them out as well.
So far it looks like those interested would like a weekend date. We have a few suggestions:
1. The Rain Forest Cafe
2. Picnic
3. Renting an empty hall and getting fast ffod or take out.

I guess we also need to know who is all interested and how many people in their party. Also what date do we want to do this. I'm not available May 9 - 23 as we'll be doing WDW and the DIS Cruise.

Let the games begin!

Suzanne

Me me me! I'm in!

Anytime is good! The sooner the better...

Rainforest Cafe sounds good but so does a picnic, the only thing about a picnic is that we'd have to wait so long to do it...

It would be just me or me and J. So just one or two. I've done a lot of event planning and would be willing to help if you need it!

Oh, and I'm not sure if this is a concern for anyone else, but it would be great if the location could be accessed by transit... TTC or Go

Hey, another Toronto DIS meet! Great idea! I organized the one at RFC at Yorkdale mall in May 2000. We had a good turnout that included Webmasters Adam & CathyCanada, Baboo & a couple of others. A few brought kids...we chose to leave ours at home (they're younger... 6 and under at the time). We really enjoyed ourselves, and spent a couple of hours in the restaurant. This was the weekend we were all waiting for the BIG announcement (remember trying to weedle it out of Adam?) about the Around the World tour.

I made reservations, and you can't be seated (supposedly) until your entire party is there. I would say, though, that I think another venue would be better. I really found that those of us at one end of the table didn't really interact with those at the other end. A picnic or something would be better for mixing.

Okay, sorry so long. I'd be interested in coming again, but whether I can, and whether I bring my kids will depend on when & where! June is nuts for me, but the summer is alot easier.

Oh, and I remember we had to change the date 2 or 3 times before because people's plans kept changing (just to warn you!).

Good luck with planning, email me if you want more info, and I hope I can make it, too!

Evan = 14 months old (First time to WDW in April!)

Why don't we try to do something at Rain Forest cafe the weekend before SandraC is off to Disney.... so after Easter.
Then we can to a SUMMER PICNIC Meet or even maybe try to do a Canada's Wonderland Day and get a group rate????
What do you guys think?
Somehow it looks like i have had the responislibity of planning drop on me. I will be bringing my daughter who is 4 and wheelchair bound, and non-verbal. Anyone else coming might want to prepare any small kids that they bring.

I'm really interested in a Toronto Dis meet. It might just be me, or me + DH, or me + DH + the 2 little darlings, depending on the date. I'm very close to the Rainforest Cafe, so that's fine with me, but I really think CindyCan's point about being at opposite ends of a long table is well made. The place in Mississauga (the Shell Info Centre) in the other post sounded like it might be a good possibility, too, especially if there's room to move around. I'm flexible, though.

Taryn - If it isn't directly on a GO/TTC route (like the Mississauga venue, probably) I expect someone could hook up with you to give you a lift from a nearby GO station.

Cheers,

Okay, maybe this is a little much, but, how about doing a DIS meet early summer at Centre Island? It's so pretty there, Centreville is a great place for kids, and there's lots of picnic spots. Or, we could meet at the restaurant that's right at the Centre Island boat dock, I don't know the name of it, but you have a beautiful view of Toronto's skyline.
You know, with our wonderful exchange rate, and Toronto's charms, some of our Buffalo area DIS'ers might be interested. Maybe our Moderators could help us snag the "DIS Meet King" himself, none other then travel savvy Dan Murphy!
For those of us coming from out of town, we can use our DC cards for a hotel discount.
I know some of you don't want to wait till June, but I thought I'd throw this idea out and find out what you think. It could always be a second meet after a spring one. :)

The Centre Island idea sounds like fun! :)

All the locations work for me!

Perhaps we can start narrowing it down a bit. So these are some suggestions so far.

(1) Rain Forest Cafe, Yorkdale (Now)
(2) Shell Info Centre, Mississauga (Now)
(3) Centreville, Toronto (Summer)
(4) Picnic (Summer) lots of great locations!
(5) Paramount Canada's Wonderland (Spring/Summer)

Options (1) and (2) work great if we plan it for now. The other options are great for the spring/summer, due to weather. Many other summer places are: Kelso Beach in Milton, Niagara Falls (I know it well, and we could even go now ~ lots of great meeting places), Metro Toronto Zoo (the zoo in winter is great).

Perhaps a few more options and then a vote to narrow it down. Once we pick a spot, the time can be determined.

I am really looking forward to meeting other GTA Disney Folks!

You guys are too funny. I would like to come to a Toronto meet and actually have been wanting to for some time to meet Sylvia, (NicksMom), who has been quite ill. I do live in Chicago, so it is not a short hop to Toronto and I have no business applications that would have me come there. If things start to come together, let me know and I can look into it, but PLEASE, do NOT take this as a yes, just yes, I can entertain the idea. :) And I do appreciate your invitation. :)

Thanks for stopping by Dan. I didn't realize you read the Canadian board, I guess I should have known better! :D I think it's great that you would "entertain" the idea of attending a Toronto meet. I know, it's not a yes. We'll see what we can come up with, and keep you posted. :)

Boy you guys have been busy since I last checked in. I think that 2 meets are a great idea. One within the next month or so, and one in the summer. My personal choices would be the RFC at Yorkdale as it's sort of a central location and easy to get to from all directions, and a picnic at Centre Island. I can't wait to meet more of you from the DIS.

Hi Everyone.....
I am going to have to pull out of a disney meet right now as my mom has cancer and my grandma has had a heart attack and I may have to fly off to England at a moments notice.
Who wants to plan the next meet?
I'll be there if I can but right now my hands are full with family matters.
I would definitely be interested in Centre Island.
Good- Luck all.
Suzanne....
I just hope this won't affect our Disney Cruise trip May 11- May21. :(

Wow Suzanne! You certainly have your hands full right now! I hope that everything goes well for your Mom and Grandmother. Hopefully everything will go smoothly for your cruise. Best of luck and sending you some Pixie Dust.

I don't want to further muddy the waters of choice but what about Ontario Place? There are restaurants, the water park, the Imax and other neat attractions. In spring it should not be too busy, I would think.

Anywhere you decide to go, it sounds like a great idea. Maybe some our southern neighbours would like to come and check out the (hopefully) future home of the 2008 Summer Olympics ;)

Hey! Where'd everybody go? I think that a meet at the RFC this time of year would be good. We are available April 1
April 7
April 8
April 21
April 22
April 29
There are 4 of us-2 adults and 2 kids (10 & 13).

I posted over on the Community Board that we are thinking of having one at Canada'a Wonderland this summer. I thought that maybe that way we might get some of our friends from south of the border to join us. I figure the more the merrier.

Pick a date and let's go to RFC! We also get season passes to Wonderland and love to do a WDW thing!

DH and I went to Yorkdale RFC during March break, and I can see what CindyCan meant about the difficulties of interacting at long tables. Having said that, I would still like to give it a go. Maybe, while we wait for dessert and coffee, we can change seats, as long as it doesn't drive our server crazy of course. We could also discuss and work out plans for a summer meet. DH and I are available;

APRIL
7 & 8
21 & 22
28 & 29
MAY
5 & 6

SandraC, you're going to WDW on April 20-28 right?
We should do it before or after your trip. :)
