Whats the difference?

For any of the DVC resorts that also have resort hotels, What is the difference between a DVC studio and a resort hotel room (at the same resort)? I was just wondering, since they were "converting" the top floors of AKL into AKV. Obviously there is work necessary to convert into a 1 bd, but what about the studios? Are they roughly the same size? Just curious.

The main physical difference would be the kitchenette. That requires water and sewage lines, electrical, and so on. But aside from that, it's not like they are simply adding the kitchenette and calling the room a DVC. All of the wallcoverings, carpet and furnishings are being replaced. The bay may be the same size, but everything in it will be brand new for the DVC units.

I think the studio are slightly bigger than just a room. with the exception of the values - these were smaller rooms and will be much smaller than normal studio and villa

yea - the sq ft for AKL is 344

Jambo is 365 (except for value 316) - kidani is 366

this is studios only.

I don't know specific square footage, but in general the studios I have stayed in have been similar to a regular resort hotel room. Instead of 2 beds, there has been a queen bed and a sofa (which can be converted to a sleeper.) Because the sofa and coffee table take up the same amount of room a queen bed would, there's not that much more actual space, but it feels roomier because you can walk between the table and the sofa, etc.

The area where you would normally enter and have just a closet has a kitchenette instead, with a microwave, small fridge, and small sink with cabinet area. The closet is on the side of the vanity/bathroom area instead, if I remember correctly. The bathroom area is about the same, with the sink outside and the tub and toilet in a separate room.

Studios are nice, but a one bedroom is really wonderful, and a 2BR...can't wait to stay in one next week!!!!

If all the rooms were studios, it would be easy. But they have all combinations including studios connected to one bedrooms to make lock off two bedrooms. So there is going to be lots of noise and lots of construction.

AKL had two different room sizes. The 4th floor and below have "standard" size rooms. Most of the 5th floor and all of the 6th floor had "deluxe" size rooms, about 40 square feet larger than the "standard" size rooms. There were also some "standard" size rooms on the 5th floor, located on both sides of the Giraffe and Ostrich trails (the two short trails along the front of the resort).

As already mentioned, when they convert AKL rooms into villas, they are using one AKL room to make a studio and two AKL rooms for a 1BR. Because there are both "standard" and "deluxe" size rooms on the 5th floor, the studios created from "deluxe" size rooms will be about 40 sq. ft. larger than the studios created from "standard" size rooms. The smaller studios (called "Value" studios) cost fewer points.

They are putting the kitchenette where the closet was in the AKL room. For lockoff studios, they are putting in an armoire instead of building a new closet. The dedicated studios do not have a connecting door to a 1BR, so they will have a closet where the connecting door would have been.

In the new building (Kidani Village) the studios will be about the same size as the larger studios in Jambo House.
