Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part V!

Well I didn't get to make my trip due to emergency surgery but my children did. Trying to figure out how to upload the picture of the cake I ordered from 1900 Park Fare. They said it was delicious and are bringing me some home !!

Has anyone ordered the new Mickey ears cake yet?? I'm very tempted to order one for my daughter's birthday but would like to get some insight on the taste and look before I order.

A couple of weeks ago I read this entire thread in one sitting. Recently had a nightmare that we were sitting down at BOG for dinner, but I'd forgotten to order the special birthday dessert for my partner  what a disaster! (I set a calendar reminder upon waking :bitelip:)

I really want to order a mini "Welcome to Disney!" cake and have it waiting as a surprise in our room at AKL, but... sounds like they probably wouldn't budge on doing a mini, and we won't be able to eat anything 6"+ throughout the week, not with the ADRs we have planned.

Has anyone had the Boston cream pie specialty dessert at Liberty Tree Tavern? Thoughts?

FWIW, a 2 layer 6 inch cake isn't a ton of cake. And considering the cost is often in line with a mini cake, and sometimes even cheaper, I wouldn't worry so much about whether or not you eat all of it. Just my opinion if you really want to have a cake.

But then again I also get 3-4 layer 6 inch cakes where 3 of us will have a piece when it's presented and I eat the rest for breakfast the rest of our trip. Nothing quite like starting every single day with cake. :D

When you say a two layer 6" cake is the cost of a mini cake, you now have me wondering how big of a monster the 6" cake I ordered for DF's birthday will be, as it was $105!!

nooooo, don't suck me back into the cake vortex with this reasonable thinking... :hyper:

(looking up 6 inch safari / Animal Kingdom / jungle -esque cakes now)

It all depends on what extras and decorations you do. It doesn't have to be a monster, lol. But if it is, Disney cakes are so delicious you shouldn't have any trouble handling it, lol.

IMG_9600.JPG IMG_9601.JPG We celebrated DD 5th birthday at MK last week and ordered the celebration cake for the Fireworks dessert party for her. It was cute and really yummy. However, they lost the order and had to make it while we watched fireworks so we were so full from the dessert party food that we only took a bite then brought it back to the room. It was good but I wouldn't recommend it with the dessert party - just too many desserts. We ended up not paying for it though since they had lost the order, they were very apologetic and did not charge me. Sorry the pics aren't great, DS took the printed chocolate off just as I pulled out my camera then took a bite before I could get it back on for a close up photo lol

IMG_9594.JPG Oh, and at CRT they just added a make your own cupcake dessert to the kids menu - and it comes with a vanilla Cupcake with blue icing, glitter sprinkles and candy pearls to decorate plus a red velvet cupcake with a candle to make a wish even if it's not a birthday (I thought that was a bit odd when I saw them bringing them to other kids and just telling them to make a wish, but ok). My kids thought it was fun, but liked the red velvet cupcake better than the vanilla ones they decorated.

Yes, it's available at every Disney-owned and -operated restaurant, so Le Cellier is included. There are no other standard special desserts, but you could request a custom fondant cake or a mini cake by calling the number listed under Epcot in Post #2.
.

Thanks so much @lurkyloo !!!

I absolutely love looking at everyone's cakes, and appreciate all of the great information on this thread. I was hoping one of you could help me out..... My family will be at Disney World this October and it will also be my daughter's 17th birthday while we are there. Of course she is too cool :cool2: for anything kiddish looking, but I was hoping to have a cake brought out during our dinner at Wilderness Lodge for her birthday. I have seen quite a few Haunted Mansion cakes (which is a definite option), but she also loves Tower of Terror and Nightmare Before Christmas. Do any of you have any pictures of cakes with these themes? Thanks so much for your help on this!!

For those of y'all who have ordered cakes and added personal items like figurines or toppers ... when did you do it? Or were you able to drop them at the restaurant and have them do it?

I'm organizing a big celebration dinner after the Marathon in January and this time, I'd like to have a cake feature the replica medal pins from the weekend ... just trying to figure out the best way to make this work.

Yes, we just had one last night at BOG! We ordered the chocolate, and it was all chocolate - cake, frosting inside and the outside (not a fondant, as mentioned earlier). It was delicious, but very rich and way too much cake for 4 people. We've ordered minis in the past, which has been the perfect amount for us, but this was nearly double. It's saying my photo of the whole cake is too large to post, but looked exactly like the ones in the blog. Oh, and the ears are edible too (dark chocolate!). Here's a photo of the interior - this is 1/4 of the cake.

@Cluelyss thank you so much for the photo! My 10 year old would love an all chocolate cake! I was afraid the cake would be dry but this looks super moist! Also, glad to know that it's a big cake. I couldnt tell from the promo photos how big the cakes were exactly but your description described it perfectly! We prob won't have leftovers:love:

I just did this last week. In my case, the cake was a surprise, so I flagged our server down while my husband was at the buffet and told her I'd ordered a cake and brought a figure to go on top. I asked if I could give it to her to put on and she said yes. It was a bit of a scramble because he was walking back as I was handing it to her, but he didn't notice and she or someone else put it on in the back before bringing it out.

I don't have any pics, but I did toss around a ToT cake idea with Pat at GF. She suggested making the cake look like the bellhop hats, and said they have a screen print of the tower they could put on top. However, she sounded underwhelmed about that particular screen print. I'm sure with enough lead time, you could have the picture e-mailed to you so you could see it first.

@Cluelyss Thank you for posting this! So, was it just regular buttercream and cake then? (That's what it appears to be) Someone earlier thought it might be more like Amorette's that had some different ganache things, etc. If it's more like just regular cake, this would be perfect for us! But I'm not sure everyone could handle that much chocolate, we might have to do the vanilla! So glad to see a first hand experience!
