DCL not ready to return to Tortola yet...

Maho Beach is on the list of the world’s most dangerous tourist attractions. Adults can take risks at their discretion but IMHO no one should risk taking children there.

I'm confused. The thread title is for Tortola but many of the recent comments seem to be about St Maarteen.

It's because on cruises that were originally for Tortola, the replacement port to date has been SXM. If the upcoming Tortola stops are re-routed, the assumption is that it will continue to be St. Maarten.

Our Eastern Cruise is July 28. Still no official word from DCL if Tortola is happening or not.
Wow. You should be hearing soon. I noticed that Tortola is listed as the port on the DCL website for your cruise. Please post when you find out

St. Maarten here we come!

What cruise are you on? We are on Eastern for mid September and still listed as Tortola at this time. We were on the Eastern in April and went to St. Maarten...I think they notified folks at about 4 to 5 weeks before sailing.

Has Tortola always been such a dangerous port -- or is this because of the hurricane and damage, etc.? I always thought Tortola was a nice place to go :confused3

It was really badly trashed. A lot of infrastructure was destroyed.

Still seems weird as a vacation attraction to me. It’s not like you typically hang out at the fences of your local airport. But hey, to each their own!

Depends on who you hang out with... we live near an airport and its not uncommon for my husband to tear past me to run to the airport if something new/interesting gets listed a flight plan. We'll sometimes come home a different way to drive next to the airport and see them take off and land as we go. Planes are cool! :cool2:

Assuming that we will be going to St Maarten, a) are all the excursion listed on the DCL web site open? b)

Sept 22. What did you think of St. Maarten?

What excursions will be offered for your date will vary. I would not assume all of them will be offered.

The people on my sailing who did DCL excursions didn't seem to rave about them. There are several quality independent providers who are providing smaller group opportunities with competitive pricing who are very delighted to accept your hard currency.

July 14, July 28, & Aug 11 are officially going to SXM.

Next sailing still scheduled to visit Tortola? Aug 25 - the one I'm on. We'll see. I still think we end up at SXM also, but unfortunately it probably won't be made official until late July/early August.

Where would you rather go?

Hi! Do you mind me asking what you did for your port day? We are looking to use an independent charter for sailing/snorkeling and would love suggestions if you did that for your port stop! Cheers!

It is extremely rare that you won't be back in time. Private providers live and die by their TripAdvisor ratings and word of mouth on cruise boards. They will get you back.

Issues are more common on Alaskan cruises and similar, because of fog and helicopters and the like.

We went private on SXM and were back a full 90 minutes before all aboard, including stopping for ice cream after a full day tour. People we were talking to on ship who did DCL tours were all pretty meh about them. There is a big difference on these islands between the small groups you'll get going private to the cattle calls coming off DCL.

Hello! Do you mind me asking who you used in SXM? We are on the 7/28 Eastern that just got moved there. We were going to sail again with Aristocat in Tortola, whom we LOVE, so we are looking for something similar. Thank you for your time! Cheers!

I grew up in Miami and my Dad was always taking me to the airport to see the new planes coming in and helicopters, etc. We'd sit outside the fence and snack and watch. It was great noisy fun
