Here now

Space Mt and people moved down. Crowds BAD.
SPace Mountain and People Mover tend to be up and down frequently during the day. Go ride something else and go back to them in an hour or two, they'll likely be running and back to normal.

I can't say am too surprised it is crowded, since a lot of schools where we live are out for the summer starting this week.

Plus don't forget, a lot of people booked their vacations before knowing when Toy Story Land would open, with wide speculation that it would be around Memorial Day (the opening-day announcement was not made in mid-February), and even after that and until very recently, there was a lot of speculation that there would be "soft openings" in the last two weeks of June.

Still, that sucks to hear, and sorry you are dealing with that!

With the emphasis on standardized testing, more and more school districts are moving up their start dates to get more weeks in. This moves up the ending date so summer is beginning earlier and earlier. In my area in Texas, they are moving it up a week again this year which is going to put the last day of school as the 3rd week of May.

1st week of summer vacation here as well, school doesn't start until after labor day in MI.

That used to be true, but with MI schools now able to obtain a waiver to start before Labor Day, more and more are taking advantage of that.
My kids go to private school and have always started before Labor Day.

From what I understand, they evacuated Space Mtn, and they hustled people out of there really quick...also shut down the people mover, lights were on inside the mountain. I'm wondering if there may have been a medical emergency or something happened with the ride itself.

We’re here now and have been since 6/15. I’ve actually been really surprised at how manageable the crowds are. We haven’t waited in a single line more than 15 minutes, between utilizing EMH/rope drop and FP. I’ve been able to get FP for almost everything but have done quite a bit of rope drop standby lines. We have done pretty much every headliner in every park at least once, some twice. I have not seen or felt wall to wall people, even in Pandora. It’s been a great week!
Out of curiosity, are you hitting parks with extra magic hours or are you avoiding those parks?

MK was surprisingly bad today. Shocking because Epcot was pretty quiet yesterday so I had high hopes for the same at MK today. Glad we were there early this morning!

We hit AK during EMH twice and stayed until lunch, hit HS in the evening when it had EMH in the morning, and hit Epcot during EMH at night today (it really did not feel crowded to me at all there!). We do not have Thursday or Friday park days so we did not hit Epcot or MK during morning EMH but did rope drop both.

Bunch of PA schools ended Friday so this would be the first full week off. Thank you @AngiTN for the firework viewing spot. I prepared my kids saying we were never staying for fireworks at MK because of the crowds I read about in front of the castle. Now we have a place where we might still see them live!!

What does shock me is the ability of the CM to not go off on some of them. I don't have half their restraint. And when I have encountered some of these guests, I don't hold back. There's no need to treat the CM the way I have seen some do. These CM are never the one responsible for whatever the situation is. Usually, it's the guest making it happen to themselves.

On our last trip I witnessed a guest get in the face of the loading CM at the railroad station. He was yelling at him about the loading process and how it is “ridiculous” to have to find your own seats (meanwhile, everyone is boarding the train and this guy could have just gotten on ...) The CM completely kept composure while this man was inches from his face. The CM did not in any way deserve to get the brunt of this man’s unusual frustration with the Walt Disney World Railroad loading process.

ETA: OP, we have friends there now who always go this week. They said it is unreal compared to previous years. Much more crowded. Crowds do not bother us as some of our trips land around holidays - we adjust our expectations - but I think it is tougher when it is much more crowded than you are expecting.

Rudeness of guests stopped shocking me a long time ago. Sadly. People have lost all since of politeness. What does shock me is the ability of the CM to not go off on some of them. I've never understood rudeness in the most magical place in the world. I can't stop smiling when I am there. First world problems people!!

Here now! I also spent the day at MK. With planning and fastpasses, our family was able to hit all of the mountains as well as our other family favorites. Fastpass availability was good, we kept getting them right until 10. Getting from ride to ride was challenging when walkways got crowded mid-day, but fastpassing made the waits manageable.

I think the extreme heat makes the crowds feel heavier. It can bring out the ugly side in some of us!

If you haven't done it yet, move on down towards BOG, just before you get to LM ride. There's usually a Photopass Photographer hanging around during HEA and they'll grab shots of you with the fireworks going off with the Beast castle behind you. Beautiful shots and often no one else watching back there. It's our favorite spot to catch the fireworks. They are so much better there. You miss the projections of course but make up for it by improved fireworks..

Granted, it's a given that this is the peak time at MK, on any given day. We vacate the park during that time even on slow days.

I'm going soon....taking notes.....LM?

In British Columbia, schools have always gotten out about June 25 and start back the day after Labour Day.

Yes, we booked our June 3- 13 vacation thinking Toy Story Land would be open. Also hoped for soft openings, but got nothing. I didn't think it was horribly busy until the last couple days of our trip though.
