Another lovely day in Oklahoma. . .

Why oh why do I not live in Canada from June-September and FL from January-April???:teeth:
Better book your tickets now Micca, while there's still space available! :rotfl2:

I don't know how you deal with the crowds Annette! This reminds me of when we did a cruise to Alaska they told us that the state is 4 times the size of Texas (which is larger than France!) but the total state population is around the size of Austin (700-800 range.) Our tour guide reminded us continuously that most people just live however they wish, there's "nobody there and nobody cares."

I used to watch Alaska State Troopers every now and then and that was one thing that really stuck out. The police care and don't care about certain things. It was sorta talked about that people tend to relocate to Alaska or choose to stay in Alaska to be left alone lol.

I think that's right about people who sort of want to do their own thing. The people we met were all super nice, but of course we were tourists not straying far from the typical tourist spots.

@tinkerdorabelle Welcome to our little corner of the Dis! Nice to see you, please join in the fun that is ALDIO:

Just thought I'd pop in, and wish some Aldios a Happy 4th of July! party:

Our bathroom reno has been delayed yet again... sigh. Our GP of 30+ years announced his retirement. That leaves us with finding a new one. Some of his patients are being assigned to other Drs in the clinic, but they are all male, and I thought the next chapters in my life I'd like a female. There is a shortage of physicians in our area so my search may be futile.

His retirement has also left me profoundly melancholy. When we located here 30+ years ago we were one of his first family of patients. The physician before him was from my childhood, when he retired I was younger then, and a mom with a 16 & 12 year old so... being so very busy I guess there wasn't time to 'think' about leaving him. Also, WE had to find a new physician since we ourselves were relocating.

Thanks for being here for me... sigh. :(

Agree - best wishes from me also! I didn’t make it through the “4th of July Plans” thread but I hope it’s an enjoyable day for all. I presume it’s a day off work?

Tough about the doctor @NFLDERS - I also don’t like it when something unexpected rocks my little boat. :boat: And finding a good family doctor I’d harder than it sounds in many places outside major urban centres. Heck, even here in Calgary the GP shortage means many, many people have to use walk-ins for primary care.

Also, welcome to summer in Calgary it’s 11C today and threatening rain but is forecast to be 31C for the Stampede Parade on Friday. :cold::sunny:

Sorry about the doc sitch Jane. I started with a new doctor back in 2007 who shared a birthday with me, he was one year younger. He's now dead! The last few doc changes were due to me relocating. I started just finding a doctor in the neighborhood, if I'm going to the doctor I'm probably not having one of my best days anyway, no need to add a long drive into the mix.:) Good luck finding someone you feel comfortable with.

Headed over to DDs later for some food and fireworks. My little DGDs are soooo excited for the pyro I'll just enjoy seeing them so happy.:)

Happy 4th, all! We had our fireworks celebration last night. Just relaxing today. It's so very hot.

Sending a hug to cheer you up, Jane. I, too, prefer a female GP but have found it hard to find one I like within my insurance network. I had an excellent one for a few years but she moved. I think she ruined me for anyone else because I have yet to find one who can fill her place. I have had okay luck with a couple of NPs but both are male so still not quite as comfortable with them as I wish, though infinitely better at interacting with patients than the male physicians I've encountered. Not so cocky, much more empathetic, and they spend more time in the exam room with you. Does Canada have nurse practitioners?

P.S. I don't know about where you are, but it seems like a lot of the female doctors specialize in pediatrics around here. I wish I could see my daughter's pediatrician!!! She is incredible. It will be a sad, sad day when my daughter ages out of that practice.

Happy 4th to all my great ALDIOS.

We had our large family gathering with lots of food and fireworks last night. Our sons and family weren't present as they live far away but my sister's family next door with all her kids and grand kids were all here. Watching them watch our fireworks and running around with sparklers still makes the celebration very special!!

Jane, I know what it like if a favorite medical person retires. I already told my very special PA NOT to retire til after I die which still hopefully is awhile!! ;) She's ten years younger than me and has been with me since my 31 yr old was born. She knows me inside and out which is so comforting.

Oh and btw......it's 92 and very very humid today!! But I'm heading outside in awhile to watch my fireflies and listen to others do their fireworks this evening!

:hyper: Squee!! How adorable is this? The Amazing Race Canada started tonight :lovestruc. In the introduction interviews several teams commented on how they couldn't possibly see themselves U-turning anyone (not polite) and the first Roadblock was a challenge called "Save a Beaver". :goodvibes Not sure if any of our ALDIO pals can view this on you-tube but I totally wish you could all see what I'm seeing! :grouphug:
Here are the teams - TAR-C Heros Edition.

Yes, we do have nurse practitioners. My GP's office has one however, she worked along side him in a limited capacity to lesson the load so to speak. This is something I may investigate further though going forward.

Well don't leave us hanging...I'm worried about the beaver! ;)
:goodvibes Rest easy, @Micca and @Twilight Sparkle - (most of) the beavers ended up saved!! These pictures don't really do it justice but the contestants had to zipline off the side of a mountain and land on that mesh net suspended over the gorge. Then they had to bunjee jump off the net and lunge out to grab a stuffed beaver dangling off one of those cables before plunging down towards the river below. This all happened in Squamish, BC - about 50 miles north of Vancouver.
