Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Off topic, but how do you like that waffle maker? I was actually going to order one this morning from Box Lunch and then hesitated. Is it a pain to store? It looks a bit big in the photo...but I mean, look at those gorgeous waffles! šŸ˜
I know you didnt ask me, but I also have one lol. It is kind of a pain to store, especially if you have a smaller kitchen, but I still think it's totally worth it. I like making big batches at one time and then freezing them so the next time I want them I can just pop them in the toaster.

Oh itā€™s big for a waffle maker but itā€™s so cute! My kitchen is Mickey themed so I leave it out on the counter to add to my ambiance haha. It works great too!!

My husband is begging me to buy an RV. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ Sounds like the perfect way to travel to WDW!

It really is. We've done it twice before, next year will be our third time. We used to take 6 days (arriving on the 6th day), but we've decided to slow things a bit and take a full week to get there.

I love RV'ing. We have had some wonderful trips. Last year we went from WDW to Great Smoky Natl Park then to Yellowstone. It was a BLAST!!!

Thanks for the input! I think you've convinced me -- although, with anything Disney I'm easily convinced. :D

Boy this thread took an odd turn...
Amen.
Man all this talk of Disneyland potentially never reopening or when it does it wonā€™t be the same is bumming me out...
Agree.
... Letā€™s all take a collective deep breath!
A little louder, please!

Get Away Today has been telling their customers they expect to hear some news in August. No clue if itā€™s based on anything or not.
It could be. These next 2 weeks are considered ā€˜criticalā€™ for the CA counties to get their numbers down. So the first week in August should be a prime news and results time.

I checked with DD and she stated WDW entertainment CMs had less than a weekā€™s notice to return to work, 1 day of training, and were out for the park previews the next day.

Attraction CMs were in training 1 week before previews so they could practice new loading procedures. Not sure about Food and Beverage or Merchandise.

So technically, DLR could start up with previews within 2 weeks of an ā€˜opening dateā€™ announcement. DLR shouldnā€™t need a full month because the Attractions were being modified at the same time WDW was modifying theirs.

Wouldn't surprise me. The last official announcement we got from DLR was on June 24th. So an announcement in August would come after about/at least 6 weeks of waiting. If we don't hear anything sooner, it would make sense to me that they announce something (even if it isn't major) rather than continue the silence, which just feels weirder the longer it continues. Does that make sense?

I know if it frustrating for some that Disney isn't making any type of announcements. I can see a general announcement that they are working with State officials to determine when the parks can reopen safely. I do not see any type of announcement of when the parks will/might open, since all indoor entertainment (or the indoor portions) is closed in the California.

An announcement or "news" (as GAT put it) doesn't = a reopening date. It just has to be officially from Disney, not from bloggers, not rumor, not from a third party. Of course a reopening date would be great, but no one said it was a given. But we are now over 3 weeks of silence from DLR, and that feels odd.

Does that make sense?
Yes especially when Iger, Chapek, Dā€™Amaro and Newsom are cohorts.

When Newsom was announcing the state closures and how Disneyland was exempt, DLR at that same time was calling CMs for an urgent overnight rehearsal for Wednesday night of that week. The character performers had no idea what was up until the rehearsal for DLā€™s closing ā€˜character farewellā€™ on Main Street / Town Square.

I read an article about the psychology of closing that WA state used to prepare everyone for the news. It makes sense that Disney announced the decision to close, rather than Newsom closing parks, because of the huge number of CMs and fans involved.

Now Disney has to present news and announcements to reopen in close alignment with CAā€™s overall plans.

I guess I don't find it that odd because of the current state of things within the state and OC specifically, it makes sense that they aren't saying anything. I think hearing that Disney is going to make an announcement, like allowing hotel books "after X date" gives people false hopes & sets up for disappointment. I do understand some are craving news direct from the Mouse, any news.

I am really not trying to be negative.

I wonder if Newsom didn't close the parks because he already knew that Disney was going to do it anyway (and other parks would follow suit). Or that Newsom told Disney to close but allowed them to make the announcement so it could be put in a "We Care" framework vs we were "forced" to close framework.

I think it fits more into your ā€œWe Careā€ scenario and serves to cause less Disney backlash towards Newsom.

Honestly, I don't think Disney's silence is all that odd. What more is there to say? Until they have a 'concrete' opening date all they'd be saying is "Nope, not yet". We already know where Orange County stands as far as California's mandate for re-opening goes, they're on the 'monitoring list' and have just had their recent openings rolled back. Disney will not be allowed to reopen until OC is given the green light. And according to California's 'roadmap' OC will have to be at least at Stage 3 before Disney reopens.

I think the first inkling for that will be when Gov Newsom has a news conference and announces that OC is allowed to move to stage 3. At that point OC will be able to petition for reopening and from there Disney can petition OC.

It's like we're all the kids in the back seat of the car on a looonnnggg road trip saying "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" and Disney is the frustrated parent in the front seat saying "I'll let you KNOW when we're there. Until then, stop asking me!".
