I was shocked to see ratings down 20% vs last year, especially considering all the pent up demand for sports.

Almost all of these incidences the police never even get charged and it never makes it in front of a jury. The system is setup to often create a conflict of interest where DA's or the AG's offices who have to work with the same police force daily to get prosecutions on their other cases are now being asked if they should bring charges up against those same police departments and they decide not to press charges.

Then the few cases that even do make it in front of a jury have a litany of issues in jury selection where POC are under-represented in the initial jury selection process, then subsequently defense attorneys in many jurisdictions have numerous ways to reject jurors in the final selection process so the final jury is often devoid of any POC.

So there's issues up and down the system top to bottom need to be addressed and need some reform that make it fair for all and people can have confidence that there is indeed proper accountability in all of this. Because it is obvious to many that POC are disproportionately being mistreated by police and the current system makes for little to no accountability for their actions.

I'll step off my soap box now too.

Cant speak for everywhere but where I live every police shooting goes before a Grand Jury who decides if it is justified or to be charged under color of law.

Yup, considering people are generally at home more now and there's very little sports to watch, the horrible ratings are even more telling.

I would have more respect if just once one of the players would just say "let's get the facts of the shooting not just a few seconds of a video before we burn down the city" or just condemn the rioters. Personally I'm done with the NBA.

Some of it is the game times. A lot of games in the middle of the day when many people can't watch but that is kinda necessary with the bubble to get them in

Funny enough, golf, of all sports, is at record highs for viewers (it's like the only sport achieving exceptional ratings)...but then again, they were playing without a peep today and yesterday...

It will certainly be interesting to see how the NFL does. They won’t be without protest for sure.

The situation remains though ratings or not that these athletes have a platform they want to use. They are essentially entitled to that. I don’t see it much differently than the typical person sharing their thoughts on social media.

I want to caution as we have gotten carried away a bit here with this conversation. I think overall we should try to keep this thread geared towards the NBA rather than continuing to discuss all sports.
