News Round Up 2020

I got the code this morning too, but it only "saved" me $200 total as we were in a 1 BR at OKW (our fave) and I actually moved "up" in class to a 1 BR at the Riv. It's new, we haven't stayed there, and the skyliner looks like the best transportation running right now for Epcot, Boardwalk and DHS. Might as well add it to the list of where we have stayed. Going to check them all off someday!

I'm sure DVC can be great but I don't go to Disney every year, I vacation other places so the overall cost plus yearly dues is not attractive to someone like me. I go to Dis on average every 3 years or so, sometimes less, so I don't mind "battling" for a discount when I do go there. Plus if on site is just too expensive, I don't really need to battle at all, there are tons of really awesome accommodations very close by. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

Was not saying it's for everyone but it works for us. Not sure if I had to stay off-site I would want to go anymore. Experience is totally different - but I understand why many do. We like to go a lot (2-3 x per year) and working DVC for the best rates combined with APs for the trips keep the prices low enough that on-site stays are as expensive as most would think. (DVC resale bought several years ago helps.)

Sorry- that wasn't news related. Wanted to mention that I can't imagine paying full price for the castle with no princesses, but if they lower the price I would definitely consider it because eating in the castle is awesome.

You can rent a car if under 25 with certain car companies but the youthful surcharge may make it cost-prohibitive and just not worth it in the end especially if you're already super comfortable with Disney's transport.
Also many corporate codes waive the under 25 fee, if you have any friends that work for a large company they could get you a code, they never verify eligibility.

I'm actually kind of impressed Disney is taking advantage of this low crowd time to update some of the resort rooms and pools.

I'd have thought they'd be in big time no spending mode.
Much of this was planned prior to COVID. When it comes to pools and stuff those need regular maintenance too. The Poly was certainly more of a surprise. Other room updates were mostly already started.

You can still be DVC. You can buy a small contract of 50 points and go on a 150 point vacation every 3 years.

Year 1 - 50 pts - No Vacation - Bank Points
Year 2 - 150 pts - Vacation - Borrow Points
Year 3 - 0 pts - No vacation - No action
Year 4 - 50 pts - No Vacation - Bank Points
Year 5 - 150 pts - Vacation - Borrow Points
Year 5 - 0 pts - No Vacation - No Action

... etc

At least I think that's how it still works.

So .. everyone gets the discount now? That's cool, but odd .. why would they release it for a few days regionally and then expand it to everyone?

Did they "feel" the blowback from just offering it regionally?

More back to normal stuff! Yay!
i just checked and for our date later this month “Magic is Here“ discount only applies to the states referenced earlier in this thread

For me its always transportation. I am too young to rent a car. Magical Express and onsite transportation will always be the biggest perk for me. I have never had any major transportation issues either.
Same. Dh always drives because he doesn’t like the way I drive, lol.....and while on vacation he likes to be chauffeured by Disney transportation.

They are unique PIN Codes. When I checked random dates after verifying my name and zip code the discount associated with my PIN code was automatically selected. Next to it though was the discount for the selected states.

I don't think it has anything to do with a blow back from just offering it regionally though. Just normal PIN code offerings (albeit at a steeper rate than normal conditions).
