Sorry for asking something that I’m sure has been asked many times before...
Can you join a boarding group from the app? I see the option on the main screen, would I just hit “join” and it will add me to a group? Or do I have to actually log on to the website?
App is the only way. At 10 and 2 when in the park, you click Join, Join, and then Join again and it should create your boarding group. You gotta be quick though, they go fast! It helps to get used to the button clicks and timing before you go to the park.

Long time lurker, but I finally decided to make an account, so forgive this as my first post. I was one of the ones who had the issue where the app said "not so fast you're not in the park" (paraphrasing) when I went to assemble my party. I've been on Rise three times before, and I assume I would have gotten it otherwise. My best guess is that it had something to do with the GPS not working correctly, or Disney's servers not properly recognizing the GPS's. I could tell that around me, many people were complaining about the error, but many people had successful been put in a group too. I could tell that the guest services lines were out the door. Instead of pleading my case and waiting in line to complain, I just decided to go home, try again tomorrow, and maybe try to have a brief chat with a CM tomorrow morning to see if I could gather any useful intel that could help me.

What I've read I believe has been useful. I think that the most important might might be to make sure that you're considered "inside the park." Maybe you could test that by looking at the Disney map on your phone and seeing if your little dot comes up as in the park? Or get a CM to confirm that you're considered inside the park?

If you clicked on "Join" at the bottom of the screen and you get a "Not so Fast" message asking if everyone is in the park, then you would have gotten a BG.

If you get the red message at the bottom saying that BGs are full, you would not have gotten one.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was wondering. I appreciate the help!

You might also want to check your iPhone Location settings in general and also for MDE (aka Disney World app). Go to Settings: Privacy: Location Services needs to be "On".

Go back to Settings: scroll all the way down to the Disney World app (MDE) and verify that you have Location "On" or "While Using".

Dave

Do you need location settings on to get a boarding pass?
I never allow apps to access my location and never even keep the GPS on.

I thought it was just digital after being scanned in not location tracking?

you can go to a GET before 10am and scan your bands and they will see if you are recorginzed as being in the park

I don't believe you need to have the GPS on as it just works when you scan your MB or ticket and then the app is just a tool

We actually did this before 10 today, checked the map to confirm we showed in the park. When we talked to the GETs, they said the error was on Disney’s end and there was nothing we could have done about it. We just had some incredibly bad luck...

Just read an article that said basically half of the ride is down - I can’t really say much because of not wanting to spoil it but the article said they only let 2 families go through preshow area and then allow only 1 to board at a time instead of what has been the normal 2. The vehicle tracking system is apparently off and they cannot safely allow it into a section. Also the article said there was several other elements out when they rode - today I believe

You revealed that there's a pre-show, and familes board a vehicle that goes into a section where there are several elements! :joker:

We were at DHS today and at 10 am tried to get a BG and I got the same error as everyone else (paraphrasing) “you're not in the park today.” I kept getting that error and didn’t get past it.
But, DH was trying as well in another area close by and when the announcement was made that all Boarding Groups were gone- I was so disappointed that we didn’t get one. As we started to walk away, DH realized that he in fact DID get assigned one and it was #16. There was so much confusion surrounding today’s boarding group assigning! We did it last Wed and it went very smoothly! The only issue today was I was not assigned with him. So we found a GET person to help us and she added me on in a few seconds. Thankfully we were right by SciFi at 10am so when we realized there was a glitch we quickly got in line to see if I could be added. The line quickly formed all the way down past the ABC Comissary w folks with boarding group issues.
We finally got called at 1:15PM.

Very disappointing day.
Started off decently. Uber’d over and went through MMRR with about 15 minutes to spare. but when we got into the already long line for Slinky things started to be off. To me, it was quickly looking like there were going to be more people than I was expecting. Then, the boarding group thing happened.

We went through Slinky, with a 60 minute wait was still 45 minutes. Ugh. Then went to Galaxy’s Edge. I’ve been waiting to visit for forever, but at this point I was disappointed and upset. There was so many more people than I was expecting. Smuggler’s Run was already 75 minutes I think. We went to the blue milk stand for those new breakfast bowls that were announced. They never heard of them. No blue milk bread pudding. At this point it’s pretty much 11 and lunch time so we had lunch at Docking Bay. Then went through the shops. VERY disappointed at the mercy. There was nothing that I wanted.

I did ask if they were maybe doing dry runs at Savi’s that we could be a part of, but guest services said they are still doing the legacy sabers there. I did ask in one of the shop guys that he heard a rumor that Leia’s lightsaber might be available some time in the future.

Talked to guest services, they said things were fixed. Made sure we were linked. Gave us a fast pass AND said we could go and drop their names and get on to Smugglers Run without using said fast pass. Went and did that (it’s past noon and we’ve only ridden 2 rides). Did Smugglers Run and then waited for 2pm. It seemed we we’re going to be able to get in, but it went so fast. Another poster mentioned that the boarding groups were going so slowly and I believe there just wasn’t any room.

Decided to use our fast pass on MMRR one more time, and of course it broke down just as we used it. But, I was talking with a cast member so knew stuff. She said there were a LOT of systemic issues going on today. With the boarding groups, with the bands. She said they flew in tech experts from Shanghai over the weekend to help fix the issues but had no idea when things were going to get better. She said (and one guy at RofR ride did as well) that there were way more people than what they were expecting. She said things have been going nuts since Labor Day, and she surmised people have taken the news of the safety of DW to heart and just decided to go. She also said a lot of people she’s talked to are families where their kids are schooling remotely so they are doing so at DW. She also said people are being really pissy with cast members.

We were going to use our second HS day on Wednesday to go to Universal but might have to change that. We didn’t do Rockin’, didn’t to ToT. Today was very disappointing and has so far really tarnished our vacation that has been planned since last year. I hope tomorrow at MK will be a lot better.

Sorry this is SO long, but I thought this might be useful information. One more thing: One of the cast members said he heard that FL residents and annual pass people were going to get additional discounts announced on Wednesday.

Wish I could like this post many times! We had so many of the same experiences today. Sorry about the disappointment- we were disappointed as well. We are not locals and made a long-distance drive and have been frustrated by the crowds. I actually did not feel safe with the arrival into DHS today. For social distancing, it’s tough to have everyone arriving at the same time to try to secure a BG. It was madness and certainly not a safe feeling at all. Once the system debacle happened, we got into a loooooonnnnng line for GET. After some time, other guests started coming back through the line to let us know they couldn’t do anything for us. We decided to leave the line and salvage the day. Later on, we got back into a shorter GET line go see if we did something wrong (although I knew it wasn’t on our end), and received the FP for any ride except MMRT. We already rode Smugglers Run at that point so we used it for Slinky.

It was crowded everywhere, not just Galaxy’s Edge. Because of the glitch at 10, people just waited around for the next drop at 2. I wish that Disney would have just decided to NOT open BGs at 2, if the ride was having such issues. GET was telling people, over and over, to try again at 2 and there would be lots of spots because so many were shut out at 10. This got many hopes up, only to be dashed when hardly any BGs opened at 2. I will never condone the nastiness that some were directing at the CMs, but also a little empathy toward guests would go a long way. I know they are frustrated and tired of dealing with angry guests, but these trips are expensive and many folks we talked to in lines today were not locals.

On a positive note, this was our third park of the trip so far, and we are still feeling the magic! I am so grateful to all the CMs who are working, and we’re happy to contribute to the Florida tourism industry. Patience and grace are really needed right now, while the new reality is still being worked out.

. I really wish there was a better system for this. Especially for out of town guests who only have one or two days at HS and may not get another shot for a long time.

We were very lucky today. Thanks to this group I was prepared and we lucked out and got BG 10. Everything went smoothly with that but I figured there were issues since we didn’t get called over until noon.
We have a DAS for our son and every ride we went to said the system was glitching. Several rides couldn’t even get DAS to work, although they could verify us. That glitch worked in our favor as they just sent us through the lines.
Really all my son cared about was RoTR. He’s been planning it since it opened even though I explained that the likelihood of us riding wasn’t great. So glad I was wrong.
We didn’t get to ride the Railway ride though as it was down most of the time we were there. We have a couple hours tomorrow before heading to the airport. Hopefully we can do that.
