March Break Trip???

I am also an NB teacher and our trip is planned for March break as well. We actually just did our dining reservations this morning. We are super excited, but I’m so nervous to go. I’d hate to get stuck in Florida without pay. We will all be double vaccinated and my 8 year old nephew will be too. We have until February to decide whether we will be going, so I guess we will just wait and see what happens in the next few weeks.
I emailed district and was told that if I’m sick and stuck anywhere I can use sick days so….if I’m in Florida and can’t fly home because I’m sick…sick days will be used. Praying that doesn’t happen.

I actually just looked on the travel bank FAQ page and it says you can’t use the credits for a vacation package.
Boo. It doesn't come as any big shock that WestJet has found a new way to irk me though.

You can always book separately, book flights and then an all inclusive hotel (you can then look at the hotel through other options that might be cheaper or have better cancellation policies).

I had kind of assumed that … if we catch COVID ourselves we could use sick days . Thanks for checking ! I think I will purchase the manulife COVID insurance in case we need to isolate. Hoping by March it’s not as big of a deal and I am not as worried.

We have a trip booked in the Smoky Mountains March 6-15. We are driving. We just heard a health professional on the news last night say that they believe Omicron should be on its way out by end of February so we're keeping our plans for now.
Oh, let's hope that's what happens. And that sounds like a lovely trip. I don't have any high hopes for March Break yet...at this point if we go over the border and have lunch at Cracker Barrel I'll be thrilled...:rotfl2:

Right? I’m just looking to grab a Starbucks and stand in the dollar spot at Target in Buffalo and I’ll feel like I went on a luxury getaway.

That was what I had thought based on how fast South Africa peeked and started trending down. Fingers crossed for us. We are Mid February. We will take a look at numbers just before we go, and decide if we will visit the parks or just do more of a beachy trip!

For myself too it's now or never. I'm signed up for the 3 races for Princess Weekend, so unless I can convince runDisney to move the races a few weeks ;) I'll be going.
And so much for that trip. 2 days before our friends decided going for her bday wasn't worth the covid risk. We have until Saturday to decide whether we go and get a room somehow on our own(our dvc points are used up to Feb). Probably not going as my uncle is in ICU and will die of covid(triple vaxxed) in the coming days or week or two and I probably should stay to comfort my mom when he goes.

The biggest factor for me in not traveling is the uncertainty of what would happen if we tested positive before returning home. Driving home to NS from FL doesn't sound overly appealing, and neither does quarantining for 2 weeks in a foreign country with two bored kids. It's killing me because I desperately want to take my Potterhead kid to Universal, but I just can't justify the risk. I'm hoping that by the fall things will be different.

Also, I totally get what PPs have said about needing to travel. This is the longest I've stayed in my own province since I was a teenager. We have literally explored the entire province. This year we're hopefully headed to Ontario for a wedding and even that feels like a grand adventure at this stage.

This makes me feel happy that I've accumulated a lot of sick days.

I cancelled our March Break cruise this week - had to pay in full next week, and wasn't committing to that. I'm staying open to a last minute all inclusive, if things improve.

Reading many articles that Covid in Florida has peaked. Will still be a tough 10-15 days but then new cases will rapidly drop. Forecasts are for a 6 month lull and if no new variants arise, Covid as we know it will be much different. We are still planning for March but with many contingency plans.

We are going. Glad we're driving so don't have to worry about testing beforehand. If we test positive before coming back, we can still cross and quarantine at home as we only live 90 minutes from the border.

Really, it's no different than if we test positive at home and end up having to quarantine. At this point, there's so much community spread here that traveling is no more dangerous than staying home in my mind.

Yeah. I agree the way it’s spreading here it’s no more dangerous to go.

I kind of wish we were flying from Buffalo now. That way we could just test there and drive back over. But we have WestJet flight credits and the fares out of Buffalo for when we go are really high.

Same with the flying from Buffalo, I’m watching pricing and may cancel AC and rebook but SW and JB don’t really seem to be that much cheaper.

We feel exactly the same way. With our jobs, we are out dealing with the public so much and with 4 people in our household working with the public with our jobs, we know it's only a matter of time until one of us ( I already had one round with covid in May of this year) tests positive. It is just starting to spike in our area. So we are going to try to be as low key as we can, and cross our fingers we don't test positive before we leave mid Feb. I have plans in place to get the proper paperwork to for showing that we have tested positive, so we can get across the boarder and back.
