Marathon Weekend 2023

Light on the racing during the year, I will be trying to be more consistent after this next cycle and race during the summer months. Will drop back to 4 days/wk running and try and keep up some good mileage throughout those runs, I think that had the biggest impact for 2022 MW training.

Nov: W&D half

I was born in KCMO and frequently visit family (and Arrowhead). VERY curious to know more about these two runs. Have you done them before?

I’m a huge procrastinator when it comes to taking care of myself so I’m taking most of ‘22 off for surgery and rehab. I’ve been running with pain since 2016 and running the half this year proved I just can’t take it anymore. I’m having my right hip replaced next month and my left hip will either be repaired (FAI and torn labrum) or replaced as well. I’m also looking at having surgery on my right knee.

I registered for the Virtual Spring Surprise Challenge to use as a carrot to keep with my rehab. I’m hoping my rehab will have gone well enough to be able to participate in MW. My pipe dream would be doing Dopey again, but in truth, I’d be happy to run the 5k without pain!

I have done the Plaza 10K a ton of times and the KC Zoo Run once. The Plaza 10K may be one of the more popular runs in KC next to their marathon weekend. The best part about this run is starting and finishing at the Plaza and it always is on the first Sunday of the NFL season, so always fun to run then watch the Chiefs.

I did the KC Zoo Run for the first time last year. It is a 4 mile run and surprisingly almost all of the run is inside the Zoo. Each year, they dedicate the run to a specific animal and donate to any foundations that support that animal. Last year, it was a Koala Bear.

Thanks for the info @Goofy2015. A four miler is a really interesting distance for that zoo run. I'll definitely put both of these on my radar!

Was the survey from runDisney? I got a regular Disney one a few days ago.
It was from Disney Destinations, but specific to MW 2022—questions about every aspect, including races, courses, expo, support, etc. I’ve gotten a couple of Disney surveys lately, but this one was the longest. It took a while to complete.

I’m curious as to how many of us got a very detailed email survey today about MW2022. I did—and have already completed it. Who else got one?

I got that. I made sure to mention the umbrage regarding the plastic cups. I also kept mentioning that they should bring back POT for up to 2:30 HM or at the very least don't mix those with a POT under the current standards (Dopey/Goofy runners) in with much slower pace groups for the half. Also, the lack of merchandise for those not able to attend the expo on Wednesday.

Also laughed at needing to rate "Photo ops pre-/post-race".

I haven’t but I would have liked to. In the end I prob would have just said that I agree with @Novatrix on almost everything (I’ll give them a pass on the annoying cups this time, assuming it’s a supply chain thing).
