New BLT direct incentives!

But only if you are buying 300 points. What is the typical first time or add-on purchase?

I think many start in that 150 to 200 point range. Even with this incentive, for a new buyer, it is still a decent swing in price...but getting unrestricted points and access to the membership perks, whatever they are when they exist, may be worth it for someone who can swing it.

I do think this incentive, though, is geared more to current owners to encourage them to add on direct. While I think sales for RIV have been decent for the first time buyer, I do think that the resale restrictions have prevented some current owners from adding on there, so this (and the AUL and BWV incentives they have done) could be to capture these buyers who they have lost due to restrictions.

Because they don't have millions of new points at BLT to offer new buyers who find VGF too expensive. They have RIV for that. Granted BLT is a MK resort like VGF but this sale ends on March 2nd, and again, they won't have the BLT stock to use it as a long term strategy if they price VGF high.

Makes sense.

And here I was trying to make sense of what Disney did. Who was I kidding?

Never will....just when you think you know their plan, it changes. I think 2020 changed A LOT of the plan for the future of DVC. And, they are testing all waters to offer a little bit of everything to a wider range of buyers!!!

How do we know that BLT is not the "drop down" sale for those who think GFV is too expensive? Isn't anyone worried that with this BLT incentive it means GFV2 will be priced higher than BLT? GFV2 buyers are going to be interested in the proximity to MK. If $225 to $240 pp is too expensive, then guides can offer BLT.
The BLT incentive only goes until 3/2. VGF2 sale dates have not even been announced. So highly unlikely that is the scenario.

Yeah, we bought 200 direct for best deal at RIV, but adding on 300 in one go…eek. Not for us. But, I heard many people buying 300 at AUL for that excellent deal.

Oof this throws a wrench into my plans...

One of the choices in my dilemma is between BLT and VGC, both resale.

There's an offer I have right now for $175 @ BLT Resale for 160 Points--Front loaded with 320 Points (Banked from 2020 + 2021)

But mayyybe I can just go direct again with this new offer but for less points to fit my budget.

Current Budget: $30k

Resale Deal for 160pts @ $175 : $28000
Direct Deal 125pts @ $231 = $28875

For the resale, I won't be able to use the 2020 points so I can rent them off; however, the deal may take awhile and I'm guessing I'd lose the ability to rent them out easily with the booking windows closing in.

For direct, I can bank the 125 and upgrade myself from my current reservation at AKV and rent off my AKV points. I can also purchase BLT direct using a credit card and I would get cash back equivalent to about $1350 so if that's factored in, that's close to an additional $11 off per point.

What would you guys do in this situation?

I would go direct if the 125 will work with what you need.

Instant gratification of BLT direct, no question.

We did the 300 at AUL, but we are also selling a 175 SSR contract to offset the cost.

I think that these incentives are very good that i have seen. We currently have 130 SSR resale that we just got less than one year ago. Do you think that if we got 150 points at BLT direct would be a good add on to get the membership? Or should we get more points at BLT and then sell off the 130 SSR?

It depends on how you want to use your points going forward. If you want more direct to stay at Riviera and future resorts, then I’d get more BLT. If you like staying at SSR then I’d keep it since you already bought them. If it were me, I’d buy more direct to get the bigger discount and sell SSR.

We just closed on a BLT resale for 200 points at $165 a point. We got all 21 points banked into 22. We saved $7800 over the new direct price. I am wondering if I would have bought direct at the new price? Probably not.

$7800 is still great savings probably worth more than direct perks. I too bought 200 BLT last spring. While I wish I had more direct points, there was no way to know that Disney was going to drop this one. No one saw this coming.

Is there a resource or some sort of video that dives deep into the economics of DVC? In this thread alone there's a lot of discussion regarding the economics but it's all so confusing for a noob like me.

I would say you will net $120 a point for the SSR points after commissions. So you would basically be upgrading your SSR point to direct BLT points for for about $77 a point. But the flip side is at BLT 150 points gets you only $20 off, 300 points gets you $48 off per point.
Math wIse it nets out like this (assume either way you end up with 300 total points)
BLT 170=$38,250
BLT 300 - 130 SSR sold at $120 net=$43,500
So all in basically $5k more to have all of your points BLT and direct. I mean it’s not 100% worth it, but pretty easy to justify doing it.

They must have taken too many BLT through ROFR - and they are sitting on it now as many - who want a monorail resort are waiting for VGFII . Its simple supply / demand. The economy is shaky and interest rates are going up. They cannot charge these prices if they hope to sell
