DCL new mask policy on sailings from 3/11/22

Niche question. For a family sailing on March 5 (hard to hear this news. Kind of wish they would have made it effective immediately on March 11, easier to take)…but we don’t come off the boat until March 12, but I didn’t receive an email. Any ideas if we at least get to go optional on the 11th?

Sailings beginning March 11. You wouldn't make it.

I wonder how enforced it'll be since everyone knows the jig is up?

Just received the following email from Disney about my upcoming cruise:

All of us at Disney Cruise Line hope you and your family are staying well. Considering recently updated guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we have updated our face covering requirements for sailings originating from a U.S. port of departure, including your upcoming sailing:

  • For sailings beginning March 11, 2022, face coverings on Disney Cruise Line will become optional in most indoor locations throughout our ships. Guests ages 2 and up, including those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, will still be required to wear face coverings in the Walt Disney Theatre.

  • Guests under 5 years of age who are currently ineligible to be vaccinated will be required to wear face coverings in Youth Activities spaces and in the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique; and, while not required, we continue to strongly recommend these Guests wear a face covering in all other indoor locations.

  • As previously shared, face coverings are not required in outdoor locations while onboard our ships.

Face coverings may be required in ports of call based on local government requirements, including in some areas at Disney Castaway Cay. Masks should also be worn in the cruise terminal during the boarding and screening process, as well as during disembarkation. Please be sure to review the information available on the Know Before You Go section of our website for answers to many frequently asked questions.

We appreciate you sailing with us and look forward to welcoming you aboard.

Sincerely,

The Cast and Crew
Disney Cruise Line

I just got the email too, for our cruise next month!

I seem to be the only one not thrilled with this change lol. If capacity stays as is I wouldn’t mind, but removing masks plus increased capacity for spring break seems like a bad combo. Given case counts lately I’m not too worried though.

My only question is why masks are required for Walt Disney Theater but not Buena Vista. 🤔 My only guess is to protect the performers in the WDT?

I always wonder why when mask rules change it isn’t effective immediately or within 24 hours. It always seems silly to me to wait a week to actually implement the change but I’m sure there is some logistical reason to it.

I do think this means my 3 yr. old won’t be using kids club if the rules are the same when we sail. I can’t imagine her being willing to wear a mask when the majority of kids are not. But rules are rules so that just means she and I will find other fun things to do around the ship.

Some passengers are pro-mask or pro-whatever-restriction-might-be-getting-rolled-back. It wouldn't be very fair to them to say "the thing that you were counting on to keep you safe, as you see it, is going away tomorrow. Ready or not."

Kids club is kind of neutered in its current form anyways. My daughters both did it in December and they both asked to skip it this time, regardless of mask status.

Received it also. I expect things to start ramping up. I'm glad our cruises are a couple months
away from this change so i can see how things go.

I have a coworker who now wants to cancel because she prefers masks on board if ANYONE
is unvaccinated on the ship. She told me she will cancel. Interesting

Purely for communication reasons. They just want to give enough time for the news to trickle down to all guests, let guests have time to prepare, etc. Even with the one week notice, there will still people that show up and get mad that "you didn't tell me about this!" but if the change was too short notice, Guest Relations would not be a fun place to be on that first cruise haha.

See, this is the thing I don't get. If you (she) want to wear a mask, WEAR A MASK. Just because they may not be required does not mean they are not allowed. If people want to wear them, they CAN wear them. This isn't some church near where my parents live where the preacher and his ushers will either deny anyone wearing a mask entrance or snatch it off their face.

Have to agree. I would not be cancelling a trip because of it however I understand some may still
feel uncomfortable. I'm curious if DCL will give the refund. I forgot when her cruise was. I think end
of March.
