Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

This list just feels sad. Really not a single thing on here that I’m excited about or would plan a trip around.

Particularly when I compare that with Universal’s Epic Universe build out - both in terms of scope and speed.
So WDW gets Moana and a building to open in EPCOT and Tiana Bayou in MK ......... then crickets.

Don't forget another DVC building and "Smellephants on Parade"
Yeah, I skipped right over that

It is only showing Announced Items that have an Announced Finish Date. They'll be something soon to what comes later.
I have no confidence there is anything more except for pipe dreams for now. I think their focus is elsewhere.

A break from so much construction isn't so bad in my (probably unpopular) opinion.
Oh I completely agree with you. I'm so tired of EPCOT being a multi year mess ... not that the new EPCOT is anything to be excited about - it's still an incohesive mess but not walking in to walls will be huge.

My hope is that nothing new will slow the crowds down. While I appreciated the lack of people crushing the walkways and restaurants last trip, it did nothing for wait times.

I think that parts of Disney have just gotten so stale for many that existing space needs to be updated. Something like replacing Beauty and the Beast with a new show, isn't 32 years enough? Things that can refresh without huge construction projects.

So this is also where an Epic can move at breakneck speed and in park moves at snails pace. In theory you’d rather it be the other way but it doesn’t happen in practice.

No guests, move as quickly as possible as there’s no concern of excessive disruptive noise to the guest experience.

What there are, is incredibly disruptive walls.

As nostalgic as Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid at DHS are, they do need something more "modern" that can draw guests to those areas of the park

And that's why I don't think Disney would look to sell off Marvel or LucasFilm (or the Fox IPs) as they are the only shot at subscribers. I'm a born Marvel and Star Wars geek and and growing up on Disney as well D+ became my go-to streamer. I'm not planning to drop D+, but based on these prices I think it may drive me to the ad-based version when my contract is up
Those IPs are what keep us. We will keep the ad free Disney+. We more than get our money's worth each month. I much prefer streaming to the theater.... and even with the price increase to 13.99/month....that is the same as a single movie ticket. Looking forward to Ahsoka...Loki.

We will likely cut Hulu. Keep Netflix.
Disney also benefits from parents keeping the service so kids can rewatch Encanto for the 30th time that day but yeah they mainly have the legacy content, Marvel and Star Wars. The crackdown on password sharing is making me hard pass too.
Well they wouldn't sell off Marvel or Lucasfilm, since they are priority for Disney+ and its viewers/subscribers, but maybe the Fox IPs are the ones that could be on the chopping block? Who even watches the Fox stuff Disney+ has, even the ones based off them? I think everyone prefers the Marvel and Lucasfilm stuff on D+ over Fox.

Fox isn’t going anywhere. Having the distribution rights to the Original Star Wars trilogy, the Prequel Trilogy and Avatar is enough on its own.

Add on Deadpool and XMen being brought into the Marvel library.
