Connecting rooms?

Since this thread was bumped up again, our luck with connecting rooms didn't hold true this trip. They split up our family in two rooms in the same building at Sports, but in separate legs very far apart. This is by far the worst experience we've ever had with not getting connecting rooms ever. The manager even acted like it was our fault that we didn't get them. We originally booked preferred, but she downgraded us to standard to get us connecting rooms for the trip and refunded us the difference so it worked out in the end. Actually, it kind of backfired on Disney, we loved the standard location and will be booking that in the future. But be prepared for not getting them. Really wish Disney would fix their system so connecting rooms are guaranteed for families.

They don’t want to guarantee because it helps force families into more expensive room/villas, and makes it easier to assign by offering virtually no guarantees.

They would have to redo their whole booking system. Disney does not block out rooms as we book them, which is why they cannot guarantee connecting rooms. They just don't know what they will have available. Plus, it would also be more of a pain for us when trying to pick a room type or location. Would we have to pick connecting or not connecting? Would we be denied a booking if the type of room we wanted have the wrong sort of connecting/not connecting?

And then there is the fact that your room is not truly your room until you enter it. I've been told which room was going to be mine at check in, only to end up somewhere else.

How could a resort with hundreds of families checking in and out daily with a limited number of connecting rooms per category per resort MAKE IT POLICY AND GUARANTEE connecting rooms for families. There aren’t enough rooms. It’s impossible.

This entire thread is like one on budget board - someone claims policy that Frontier will seat families together who don’t purchase seats together (for families with kids under 13). It is not policy anywhere and same scenario- families flying to MCO all most purchase seats and only a few middle seats left scattered throughout plane- they can’t magically make seats appear together as not fair to move or ask people to move who paid for seats.

As families with kids travel they need to be proactive- unless it is written policy you can find don’t think because XYZ on a message board said it is a policy that it is true. Also if a CM or CSR tells you something get it in writing.

Things that aren’t available can’t magically become available because someone has kids- be prepared for non- connecting (even when requested) and be happy if you get.

Kids are wonderful and travel is great but everyone need to be proactive and realize kids don’t entitle you to preferential treatment (I AM NOT IMPLYING THAT ANYONE IN THIS THREAD EXPECTS THAT BUT THERE ARE PEOPLE ELSEWHERE THAT DO)
