Hi Everyone! Welcome to the new folks!!!

I am sorry I have been so MIA lately....

We have had some things going on and I think I am ready to share -- at least a bit with my DIS friends...

I will keep you all posted on her progress but until we get it sorted out, will most likely not be posting (although I do read all the posts)!

We haven't had much interaction, but I just wanted you to know I hope it goes well for your daughter. My niece, the one that I'm pictured with in the role call and who is part of our traveling group, was tested for cystic fibrosis when she was 3. It was scary. The tests were negative for CF, but just having a little one in danger of facing a big medical issue is scary. My thoughts are with you and your DD!

I myself have been out of work for over a year and we have gotten all these people to join us on the cruise and we will honestly struggle to go. That being said we sooooo understand! Ok, so back to work -- thanks for listening....

We are so sorry for all that your family are going through. No, it's not the worst thing in the world but when ANYTHING happens to our children it is a fear like no other. We would take on the world so they don't have to! On top of that you have the iron treatments and anemia and you have got to be exhausted. Know that we are here for you and you and your family are in our prayers. Keep up the good work, get plenty of rest and give your daughter a big old dis hug from all of us!

Hi Everyone! Welcome to the new folks!!!

I am sorry I have been so MIA lately....

We have had some things going on and I think I am ready to share -- at least a bit with my DIS friends...

I am getting iron infusions to deal with severe anemia. This is more a pain than anything but I am feeling better. I have a minor procedure next week that will hopefully prevent the anemia from re-occurring. My issues are small.

The problem that has consumed me the past couple of weeks is with my DD, Sabrina. We found out on the 28th that she has scoliosis. Scoliosis in of itself is not anything really that bad. It is actually very common and many many folks live with scoliosis without knowing they have it. Unfortunately, it is a bit different with Sabrina. She is only 9 and has many many years to grow. The spine specialist said she has only scratched the surface on her growing and will be very tall. He also told us she already has a 30 degree curve. Because of these 2 things, he couldn't help us......that was not a nice message to hear.

It turns out that juvenile scoliosis is not common. Left untreated it can result in a very twisted spine that would ultimately force her to have spinal fusion surgery later in life. We have to treat it now and hope that it doesn't progress any further as she grows. We were directed to the pediatric spine specialist here in Austin. I have since done a ton of research and got very very worried. My beautiful daughter could very well end up in a back brace for the next 5-7 years. We are exploring other options (there are some very exciting ones out there) but they do involve surgery which scares me silly. I have since made appointments with 2 specialists here in Austin and a surgeon in Houston. I have even submitted Sabrina to the Shriners hospital in Houston -- I hope they accept her.

At this point, we don't know what is going to happen. We should know soon and have an idea of what the next 6 months will look like (bracing/surgery/etc). Until then, if you can imagine, my stress level has been high and I have been very distracted.

I am sharing with all of you because in some ways, it is easy. Most of you don't know her at all so I have no fear of judgement. Also because my past DIS friends have turned out to be some of the warmest friends I have. I am assuming that will be the same with this group.

I will keep you all posted on her progress but until we get it sorted out, will most likely not be posting (although I do read all the posts)!

Ultimately, I hold on to the fact that this is not life threatening, it isn't something she will even (hopefully) have to deal with all of her life. We are lucky our kids are as healthy as they are and I can't imagine the stress that some of you have dealt with from cancer, diabetes or anything like that.

Sending thoughts, prayers and well wishes your way We had a crazy medical year this past year and had a February cruise to look forward to. It's nice to have something to light the end of the tunnel... Or at least a break in the tunnel It's not fun at all to watch our kids face these challenges, but they are often more resilient than we could ever be ourselves and inspire us to face our own challenges with greater strength. Update on Role Call/Room Call.

I've contacted a moderator who is helping me with a process. I have created a new thread for our DisMeet that is very similarly named to this one....slightly different. Why? Because we are already such a large group that we were running out of picture room. Creating the new thread allowed me to reserve the first several entries for further use for the group, as our DisMeet group grows.

So for those that are finding this thread for the first time....welcome!

The DisMeets group for the 5/19/2012 Fantasy Eastern voyage has been well-established...and it is an awesome group of people.

We had a thread going and then decided to create a 'directory' or role call on page one, but ran out of picture room, so I contacted a moderator that is helping me...so I created this new thread and the moderator will be combining the two threads tomorrow, so no information is lost.

Check out entry 1 for the room call and role call. Entries 2-5 are reserved for us to grow!

No problem. I like a challenge.

If I had it MY way, they would either reserve the first 3-5 entries of every new DisMeet entry automatically, since they frequently end up with an 'index' post buried somewhere within a thread. I've seen titles of threads that say that the index starts on page 3, entry XX and continues on page 17 entry xxx. Hopefully everyone will see some value in setting up the new thread and consolidating.
