Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

We will be there for 9 days, and I am a coffee drinker. Is is worth it to get the refillable mug? How's the coffee?

As a coffee drinker, I think the refillable mug is essential. The coffee is pretty good, but I'll drink anything. It's Joffrey brand coffee (a Florida brand).

I have a small (kids thermos sized) pot that heats water. You can do a pour over (it comes with a filter that fits on a small cup) to make coffee or just heat the water and do a Via or coffee single. I only take it to the values and the few casino resorts that don't have a coffee pot. If I drank more than one cup a day I'd get a mug, but I don't drink soda very often so the refillable is not cost effective for me.

That is really my only gripe about values. No coffee pot.

I will be staying at Pop Century and was wondering if anyone had any insight on which buildings are the best/most convenient to dining/buses. I will be traveling solo and want to be to far in the back of the resort.

Also when you make requests do you normally get what you ask for?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you are looking for? You want to be closer to the buses and dining or closer to the back? I personally liked being (it was preferred then, but now it is considered standard) in the back of the 60s building facing the lake. It was close and convenient to the buses and Classic Hall, but it was still on the quieter side of the building.

Ditto! That was our favorite location at Pop as well...Bldg. 4, 4th floor. We also stayed there when it was a preferred room but for us it was a free "pixie dust" upgrade....on 2 connecting rooms, no less. We really enjoyed our stay in those rooms. We could see the fireworks from Epcot and DHS every nigh. And like you mentioned, it's a quiet location yet close to the pool, buses, and food court. Now it has the advantage of not only being a standard room (so no extra cost), but it's also close to the bridge to AoA so it's easy to walk over there for a meal or if you decide to take a bus back to AoA instead of Pop at the end of your night.

Cases of water? I saw a thread that some resorts are selling cases of water for around $6.50. Has anyone seen these at Pop recently? We always ship water but it would be so much easier just to be able to purchase a case.

The resorts that are selling cases of water have them @ $16.99 for 24 16.9 ounce bottles.

We are requesting room 6129 or similar...60's facing the lake...standard room..we like the first floor, so unlike others, we find it quiet enough since we aren't near the pool.

Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you posted this! I didn't realize there was no coffee pot in the room. I was thinking we could do the hot water for hot chocolate and oatmeal too. Time to re-think this. :-)

I use mine for breakfast cereal (grits actually) as well. I am not a morning person and I'm allergic to 90% of normal breakfast items so it's so much easier for me to be able to do a safe and quick breakfast in the room.

Went to look for mine as it was really inexpensive but can't find it anywhere. this picture is almost exactly what I have but mine is smooth on the outside. The two cups, filter, and storage containers all stack up inside the actual body of the pot. It is so easy to travel with. I think I bought it at an actual travel store that is no longer in business. The blog I got this picture from said that they are only sold on ebay or thrift stores now. I may have to start looking for a replacement now so I have a backup.

I've booked Pop for May 11-17th this year. I've never stayed before but have gleened that for me (someone who hits the parks hard and doesn't plan to be in the resort much) a room close to the busses and food is best. I've read the lake side of the 60s but I'd like to give a few options I'd be open to when I check in to make it easier on them, any other recommendations for someone who wants to be close to the bussess and plans on getting up early and maybe coming to the hotel to take a midday nap?

If you want to be as close as possible to the buses and food lakeside wouldn't be the way to go. Lake side actually tends to be some of the farthest from the buses. The easiest way to get those requests is to book a preferred room. But, you could always just request "Close to Transportation" at online check in. IMO, building 10 in the 70's section was great for these things when we stayed there. Building 1 is good for food, but may be a little farther for the buses. Either 60's building will be close if you're on the side near Classic Hall.

The best thing to do is just make that request "close to buses" as your request. That way the room assignor will know what you're looking for. If you request a specific section/area and that isn't available, they won't know *why* you wanted to be in that area so you may not end up with a location that's good for you. If you're not happy with your room location at check-in, just ask what else is available that would be closer to the bus stops. That being said, if you're booking a standard room, the lake view rooms in the 60's section are some of the closest to the food court and bus stops. Our 60's lake view room was less than 150 yards from the back door of the main building. It took us less than 3 minutes to get to the bus stops. It was also convenient for stopping at the food court or front desk after returning from a park because we had to walk through the main building to get to our room anyway. We've also been in a standard room in building 9 of the 90's section and that was really close to the bus stops. We just walked through the parking lot (or on the sidewalk along it) -- it was a 2 minute walk (with 5 kids). There isn't much traffic in the parking lot so it's not a problem to walk through it if you want to save a few steps. Standard rooms in Building 10 of the 70's section would also be relatively close to the bus stops.

Almost time for our trip!!

I have a question about credit cards attached to rooms. We have 2 rooms booked at POP, one for my family and one for my parents. My parents are going to want there on card for there room and I will want a different card attached to my room. Here is where I'm a bit confused, the MDE website has a place for me to set a pin for use through out the parks/resort. My parents do not have or want MDE accounts, I manage everyone through my account (except my wife). So this means that both reservations are linked to my MDE account. So, can we have 2 different credit cards, one for one room and one for the other? If so, will both rooms use the same pin that I set up under my MDE account or, will my parents create a pin at the front desk? I haven't done online check-in because I'm nervous about this part, we don't want the same credit card on both rooms and when I started online check-in it looked like it was going to make it the same for both rooms, so I stopped.

I did this last year. Everything was under my information, but my sister and her hubby had their cc attached to their MB. It was no problem. Just have it done at the front desk and they can set it up. I would advise going to the front desk a day or so later to verify, because I've heard of people having issues. I haven't had issues, but others have.

Thanks so much to everyone who replied to my questions! Will look through some trip reports from Pop and AoA (for food court reviews.) Happy (and hopefully frequent) travels to all of you.

Yay, nine days now until our trip because I just added an extra night to the front end!! Woohoo!! I need to change my ticker!

Connecting/Adjoining rooms?
I've booked 2 rooms at Pop (5/16-5/23) and at the time of booking I told CM having them connecting was my only request. That I take wherever they put us as long as its together. As I've now hit my 30 day mark I'm wondering what my chances our. Last year (same time frame) we had 6 in our party just like this time and stayed at AoA, I'm sorta wondering if I should have booked there again since we all really all wanting to be together.. What do you think my chances are???

With any hotel it comes down to occupancy and availability of rooms. The fact you are flexible in that being your only request typically makes it much easier. I would just at check-in reaffirm your request politely, and hopefully they can help you.

I always tell people remember it's a request, not a guarantee bit never hurts to have it noted and being polite.

No matter what resort you stay at, your chances of getting your request if pretty much the same. Don't worry about it.
