Looking for advice on possibly changing a SW flight. When I booked our flights for an October trip WDW trip, I did round trip flights. Now that I've realized ME picks you up at the resort 3 hours prior to departing flight time, we are considering changing our returning leg. Currently we have a 7:45 am flight. I really don't think we want to have to catch ME at 4:45 am. What would be the best way to handle this? Should we cancel all the tickets (2 booked on points and 1 with CP) for the entire round trip flight, then re-book them online? If we did it this way, I'd probably book each leg as a one-way instead of round trip, just in case this were to happen again. Or is this something we'd be able to call SW to change for us instead of having to actually cancel all tickets? I'm not sure of the best way to handle this.

I've never had companion pass but I cancel & rebook VERY frequently on points. I'd just cancel & rebook. I typically ALWAYS do ONE-WAY tickets. It's all immediate. I always just refund the $5.60 back to the credit card & charge it again.

Super excited! Snagged saver upgrades to first class on United for our upcoming flight from SFO to LHR for our DCL British Isles cruise. Saver awards for first class were only 80k miles each (or 50k more per person since we'd already paid 30k miles each for the coach saver awards when we first booked). This compares to 150k each for the standard business awards that had been the only upgrade showing as available for our flight until today. We also had to pay $125 per person for the award change, but totally worth the extra 200k miles and $500 for first class on a 10+ hour nonstop flight. I had to transfer UR points to United while on the phone with the United agent, but they transferred almost instantly. Dancing on the ceiling right now :)

Question: When I did our upgrades to First Class referenced in the post above, I did it by calling United to process the upgrade. I had been checking the United website regularly to see if saver Business or First Class award availability popped up for our flight as if I was requesting a new reservation, and when I saw availability, I couldn't call United fast enough, lol. Does anyone know if there is a way to do the upgrade from the United website, or is calling the best way to get the upgrade processed? I didn't see any obvious way to do it online, and, not only did I not want to risk somehow messing up our existing Coach award flights by playing around, I didn't want to waste a single second trying to figure it out and risk someone else snapping up the First Class seats. But for future reference, I would like to know if there is a straightforward way to do it online without having to call in.

Sorry for the delay in replying on this. I've wasn't really online this weekend at all. The first time I booked, I made calls back and forth from Chase to Disney because I only had the trip ID (which has nothing to do with Disney) and the long number with the dash in it. Finally on one of my calls to Chase the rep told me she'd have to transfer me to a specialist to get me the vendor confirmation number.

Once I had that I was able to call Disney and explained to the rep I had booked a resort stay through Chase and needed to convert my booking number over to their system so I could link it in MDE. IIRC I was transferred to a supervisor. I gave her the "vendor confirmation number" Chase gave me. She told me since I had just booked a day or so before the reservation might not pull up in their system yet, but thankfully it was there. If you just booked on Friday, I suppose it is possible the reservation had not pulled over into Disney's system yet. Maybe a weekend problem? Sorry you're having so much trouble. On one of my calls to Chase I was also told everything would be set up just a few days before my trip. When I told them there was no way that would fly because I needed to book advance fast passes and such, I was transferred to the specialist to get the vendor confirmation number.

I honestly thought they had corrected something in their system recently because the trip I just booked had what was labeled as the "hotel confirmation number" right on my email. There was no other number with the dashes, like last time. I entered that hotel confirmation number into MDE and it pulled up my booking. I'd say maybe give it until the end of today or one more day and call Disney again. Maybe ask to speak to a supervisor. Hope you're able to get this sorted out. I sure know the feeling and nervousness of not being able to link your resort reservation.

Thanks for your reply! I haven't called either of them today. I was going to just wait until tomorrow to maybe let the reservation hit Disney's system.

I called both of them three times each yesterday (back and forth) and spoke to tech support and supervisors and only one supervisor at Chase seemed to understand what I needed. She gave me the vendor conf#. I gave that to Disney but it errored on them. Two CM's told me that because it contained letters, their system would not accept it. I was told has to begin with a '1' and have 8 numbers OR begin with a '4' and have 12 numbers.

And every time I call Disney, I sit on hold for 25-30 mins:crazy2:

You guys were right. The CIP is not on my CR which means I am still 4/24 :) I got the SW Plus card in Jan 2016 though so I am not eligible for that bonus again yet. Forgot about that until I looked at my CR.

Also, I was only approved for the SW Premier with a 2k credit line which I almost laughed at. I think that is, by far, the lowest credit Chase has ever given me on a card. Clearly, they think they have given me enough. I need to lower some of my other cards before I apply again.

Thanks! I'll try to get this done tonight and find a better return flight.

Here's what the number looked like on my original email from Chase the first time I booked.

When I called Chase, they gave me a different number as my "vendor confirmation number" but I don't have it on hand. I'll look through my paperwork when I get home and post back with what that number looked like. IIRC it had a combination of letters and numbers, but no dashes.

I would second doing one-way tickets from now on. Just makes it easier if you need to change something. Last summer, we had booked flights to and from CA roundtrip, for me and my fiance. He ended up going to Canada for work just before and flying from there to CA, so we got to bank his flight fare to use later. But they ended up having to split our flights all up, so we had four confirmation numbers - his to CA, which was cancelled, mine to CA, and then we each had our own number for our return trip.

I like doing things myself when possible, and SW points show up immediately back in your account when you cancel. I booked, cancelled, and rebooked some points flights a few months ago (all in a 15 minute window). Points were returned immediately. I did have trouble with the $5.60 tax/fee, I could not get that to re-credit on one of the flights when I rebooked it. I knew the person would be flying again this year though, so I just paid the fee again and will apply the $5.60 credit towards their next flight.

Thanks! I do plan to book one-way flights going forward. I think I was just so wrapped up in booking our first trip with CP that I just didn't even think about it. For simplicity it definitely makes more sense.

I'm not loving credit cards so much this morning. I found a $4,100 charge for a local builder for lumber on my citi thank you card??? Three weeks ago my csr had fraud. Last summer it was my quicksilver card. This one is the weirdest though since it's local.
that is a hassle, but can you keep the points? ;)

I have a number that looks like that, the trip ID and the vendor conf number. Mine begins with a 1 and is mixed letters and numbers. I'd love to know what yours looks like when you get a chance. Thanks!

Are you absolute with using ME? I ask because if you like the departure time on your current flight maybe just Uber to the airport at a time of your choice...

So last night we signed up my husband for the Southwest Plus card. We have been signing up for travel bonuses for years now and almost always get approved. My husband has a great credit score and has only opened 3 cards in the last 24 months. He had the Southwest card a long time ago but it has been closed for way more than 2 years. He got pending on this one. He called and they said they didn't see any issues but that Financial services needed to look over it. Anyone have a similar scenario? And if so, what did you do to get it approved?

My husband had that, but he was AU on a couple of my cards. I cancelled the AUs. He called recon, they looked it over and said they'd recommend approval & pass it up for final approval. He was approved a couple days later.
Be sure to check his Chase account to see if the card shows up (it often shows before you're notified)

I would just call Sw to make the change. I actually need to call and change my flight to Punta cana an earlier flight. I always call too make changes especially if I have booked early bird so I don't lose those funds. I actually called in May and changed my flight to ORlando to Tampa.

New to this whole credit card game (sorry you guys probably see this same post posted all the time!), but I have zero idea how many "points" an airline ticket usually costs, so I have no idea what's a good deal to apply for. We usually only ever fly from Boston to Orlando, but I know it probably depends on the time of year, etc. Is there like a base points offer I should be looking for before I even consider it?

@EilonwyWanderer - Every airline is different. Some have set amounts for standard awards in economy, business and first. Some also offer saver awards at a lower mileage cost for each category. Some airlines are distance based. You may find a credit card with an amazing points offer but if the airline doesn't fly out of your home airport or have flights that take you where you want to go then there would be no point to getting that card no matter how good the bonus offer.

When you fly to Orlando do you always fly the same airline? I believe BOS is a hub for Delta and Jet Blue. These would be factors to consider before choosing an airline credit card.

If you opt for a variable award credit card you'd want to make sure their points transfer favorably to your chosen airlines. Chase UR points don't transfer directly to Delta or Jet Blue. Amex MR points transfer 1:1 to Delta but 250:200 to Jet Blue. SPG transfer to over 30 airlines including Delta but not to Jet Blue. Thank You points don't transfer to Delta and transfer 1,000:800 to Jet Blue. This of course is if you intend to focus on accumulating points and miles only the airlines that use BOS as a hub. I'm closer to MIA which is a hub for American Airlines. Therefore, most of my points and miles tend to be geared toward AA and One World alliance partners. That said, I do try to keep a variable portfolio of points and miles.

My advice is to start with a goal. Where do you want to go? That can be very different from where you always go. Maybe you always fly to Orlando, but is that the only place you want to visit? Would you like to go to Hawaii, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, Alaska etc. Then go from there. When I first started the goal was to fly to Scotland. I found out which airlines would be my best bets from my home airport and began finding out which cards would get me those airline points. Then, decide do you want to fly in economy, business or first and determine how many miles you will need for that redemption. Give yourself two years. Currently, I am getting ready to book flights to China that I've been accumulating since last year for a trip I'm taking next year. Meanwhile, I am now accumulating points and miles for a trip in 2019 to either South Africa or Antarctica. I haven't decided which one yet so I'm working on both them simultaneously.

If you don't have any specific goals and really only wish to continue to make you trips to Orlando then just focus on the airline you usually use to get there. I hope this helps.

Local fraud isn't too weird, just old school :) Restaurants are one of the easiest places to skim a card or write down your data, we hand over our cards without a moment's hesitation and they disappear out of sight; the reality is we don't have a clue what happens to them between when the cards leave the table and when they come back.

We were contacted last week by the lodge at Grand Canyon where we made reservations for June 2018. Seems Chase flagged the charge as fraudulent & asked the lodge to provide proof we initiated the charge. Not clear why Chase didn't contact us. Also when we contacted Chase, they said they were no alerts on our account, however that was before I found out the contact to the lodge came from Chase fraud department.
