With one or two exceptions, I only add people I've actually met to my Facebook friends list. I've mentioned this before, but thought it was worth saying it again here, because I'd hate anyone to be offended. Hopefully I'll get to meet more of you at some DIS meets in 2010 and beyond.

i think thats normal, as there can be alot of info on fb - however as a teacher im friends with alot of old students and i have to be careful what i write... fb is a powerful tool for good and bad, i wish there was a smiley dressed as a superhero so i could do a superhero cackle at this point

Well despite the fact there are over 500 Johnny Sharp's on there, which in itself in dissapointing as I thought there was only one.
You won't find me on there, Julie did have an account (which I only found out about yesterday), but it seems though it is now in my name adding a network account is not straight-forward, or is it?

Having tried every region bar the Barbados Tourist Board I haven't found anything suitable other than schools or colleges I have no association with, and I am not putting my works details on because it's highly classified.

DIS will have to do for me.

what you could do is copy the link from your profile page (not your homepage) and we can find you that way
another thing is....
have you found any of us on the dis?
that person could send you as a suggestion to us or we could find you from their friends list.
the other thing to do is just check that your search settings are not set to friends only. if they are, noone can find you except your friends

if all else fails, like you said theres the Dis

Create a list, call it old pupils. Add them to that list. Set your privacy settings to keep that list away from your wall. Simple.

I have the same problem with work, I added a few people in my Facebook early days who I would now prefer not to know my personal goings on and so I rarely use FB now.

I have put them into a list called 'work' but cannot figure out how to stop them from seeing certain stuff if that's possible I've had a look at the privacy settings but I'm stuck Or do I just block them completely? and will they know if I do Now I remember why I gave up on FB

Any advice for a FB novice???

It is clever! I have always done the same - just been really careful what I put on there! In my case I am FB friends with a few of my children's parents (as my own DS goes to the same school), but there are some things I would still not be 100% happy about them seeing!
