SAFD: @PrincessV mine is similar to yours. My younger DS has Aspergers and some of the other developmental disabilities that can come along with that. One of the reasons we love to vacation at Disney so much is that we know what we are getting: DS likes everything *THE SAME* and we are usually guaranteed that at Disney. Also it is one place where we are guaranteed staff will be kind and understanding when our kids acts "odd" or is a little short-tempered. He may look "unusual" but not everybody outside Disney associates that with a disorder, and even people who work in hospitality don't always understand.
Be Our Guest is a favorite that we had been doing for dinner once a trip. DS always got the steak frites and he looked forward to it. When they moved to a prix fixe menu, I looked it over before the trip, but somehow didn't notice that they didn't have "frites" on the menu anymore! I know this was my bad but there we were. Honestly he is not somebody who is in love with fries so I don't know that I would have expected a problem. Long story short, DS was a little put off and rude to the waiter over the surprise (to him) menu change. I was embarrassed and apologized but was sure the waiter was (rightly) annoyed. DS is getting better all the time with therapy and maturing but for whatever reason this was a roadblock for him. I was ready for our night to be ruined and maybe have to deal with a little meltdown and have to skedaddle out of there.
When our entrees came out, our waiter produced a plate of fries for DS on the side! He must have sent out to Casey's to get them for him. Instead of meeting rudeness with rudeness, which he had every right to do, he chose to be kind and went out of his way for my DS. It turned our evening around. DS changed in a heartbeat and was able to pull himself together to apologize to the waiter himself for being curt, and thank him profusely. It was such a small thing but it really did mean the difference between a magical night and a maybe $200 disaster. And just the show of kindness and understanding bouyed the rest of our evening.
