New Disney cruise ship to set sail from Singapore from 2025

Hopefully Disney will offer some longer sailings there to attract overseas visitors, although I don't think we'll be their target.
I'm not sure. The press release really emphasized "fly and cruise" guests and all of the extra tourism that Singapore expects to come from this agreement. Maybe they mean tourists from nearby countries rather than from the US and Europe, though.

Wait, Disney cruises don't have gambling? Even in Asia?
Only thing Disney Cruise Line has is Bingo.

I could see them possibly leaving the casino in place if this ship stays international. Similar to how Disney+ overseas has substantially more adult content where domestically most of the more adult content currently goes to Hulu to keep that brand imaging.

Royal Caribbean has had Spectrum of the Seas based in Singapore and I'd bet that Disney's itineraries look pretty similar to it (similar target market, etc.). The vast majority are 3-5 night sailings to Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, with a sprinkling of longer itineraries (including 12-night one-way sailings to/from Tokyo), and they've been selling very well (I see many categories sold out for upcoming sailings). The Japan ones aren't quite as many at-sea days as I expected--seems to be 5 at-sea days on a 12-night itinerary.
I looked up Spectrum of the Seas and... eh? There are two Singapore -> Tokyo cruises and two Tokyo -> Singapore cruises. There isn't much overlap, so doing a back-to-back round trip might be nice. You'd get 11 port days and I guess the other half are at sea. I'm not sure that it's worth it. Better to just take a cruise from Tokyo an another line, I think. Then again, I really do prefer Disney. Meh.

Otherwise, I see a two 9-night cruises, six 5-night cruises, and then about 70 cruises that are only 3 to 4 nights. Disappointing. And they claim that Taiwan is part of China. Extra disappointing!

Celebrity is also sailing from Singapore. They have mostly 11- to 13-night cruises. Most of them are one-way, though. They go to Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bali, Bombay, and Sydney.

So, if Disney is willing to sail a bunch of longer, one-way cruises, then they'll have more options. That hasn't been their pattern so far, though.

Really excited about this as I live in Singapore!

I've never been on a cruise, but I quite commonly hear of friends/family/colleagues/acquaintances going off on short cruises of maybe 3-4 days in the region (in fact know someone who's currently on a short cruise to Malaysia). Also the cruises to nowhere were pretty popular during COVID. Is a bit rarer (but not totally unheard of) to hear of people going off on longer cruises to places like Tokyo.

My guess is these will be marketed toward the Asian market, not Americans. I wouldn't be surprised if they put a casino onboard if that's what the market requires.

You're right and the design already had a casino.

I’m very excited about this news (though I wish the ship was not going to be so packed)— I love Singapore and am excited to get my kids to SE Asia…if there’s a short island hopping itinerary we will definitely check it out. With limited vacation days, it’s hard to justify a flight to Singapore just to be at sea for a week, but I’m hopeful with only one ship in Asia, they will mix up different kinds of itineraries (short, long, port-intensive v mostly at sea), to try and appeal to different demographics.

For those on the fence about traveling to Asia, Singapore is probably my top recommendation given that it’s clean, safe, and English is widely spoken (plus there are lots of great activities there including the botanical gardens and the night zoo).

To where? Bermuda is too cold for most of the year. The Caribbean is pretty far away. I guess they could have 7-night cruises that stop in one or two places, but that's a lot of days at sea.
There's not just Bermuda. Other markets go out of NY all the time to the Caribbean. There are also Canadian foliage cruises, the Bahamas, Transatlantic, and even one-way cruises are possible.

But other cruises have longer itineraries. Disney likes to keep them shorter. I guess you could do a 7-night to the Bahamas. Something like NYC -> Sea -> Sea -> Nassau -> Castaway Cay -> Sea -> Sea -> NYC?

I don't know how attractive that is, though. Lots of days at sea and not with warm weather.

Still, it would be nice to see a ship in NYC from, say, June through October. Lots of Bermuda cruises and then some Canada cruises later.

With the Treasure debuting next year, the Fantasy will be freed up for something new. Maybe the Fantasy will come to NYC for a while?

I look forward to the details. One issue they will have to deal with is smoking. Also, this may open up more tie-ins with Adveutures By Disney. Possible new ABD trips announced in April or May, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a start or end point of a new trip to be Singapore.
