Where are you "must-eats" in the USA?

As a 3rd generation Texan I beg of you to try a real Mexican restaurant. Once you have a proper Mexican food meal you'll never go back to Taco Bell. Freebirds is a lot of fun although they aren't authentic Mexican food. They have awesome burritos. You go through a line and customize what you put in your burrito with lots of delicious options. They have the best atmosphere of those sorts of places and even have different flavors of tortillas.

Australian Mexican is really very very poor compared to the USA. Had the most amazing mexican meals in San Diego and Sedona. Hunt out an authentic.

Each trip we have a list of must do's, they include of-course Blue Bayou, Cheesecake Factory, Ralph Brennans, TGI Friday's, Olive Garden and a great rib place in LA called Chicago for Ribs. We are happy vegemites once we have eaten at each place. :dance3:

We'll be travelling through southern Texas, New Mexico and southern Arizona this trip so I'm really looking forward to some good Tex-Mex :thumbsup2

We do have some good authentic Mexican restaurants here in Aus - they're just nowhere near as common as Thai, Indian, Vietnamese etc.

We also don't have the same variety of good, reliable family chain restaurants that you have in the USA so it's a bit of a novelty for us :)

These are all in Hollywood, and I'll be hitting them up in October for sure!:

Carney's
In 'N Out
Pinks
Saddle Ranch Chop House
Johnny Rockets

Haven't done IHOP's yet, so might add that to the list. Will also be looking for something interesting in Boston, while I'm there for work early in my trip.

If you are looking for something different in Boston, we really enjoyed Durgin Park in the famous Faneuil Hall market. http://www.arkrestaurants.com/durgin_park.html

It is about 200 years old and specialises in "yankee' (i.e New England) traditional dishes: indian pudding, chowder, pot roast, Boston baked beans etc - and famously grumpy waitresses - all part of the atmosphere though...lots of fun and good home-style food.

Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely check it out!

You must try Johnny Rockets! :thumbsup2

Me and my family loved that place when we were there last year! Great food, but the staff there are fantastic!

And they serve the best thickshakes ever! :goodvibes

Johnny rockets is on our cruise ..Freedom of the seas, so have to do that this time.....noted:upsidedow

Pinks do the best hotdogs in the US, closely followed by Carneys. And you haven't lived until you've eaten a bacon wrapped hotdog, from a street vendor down around Manns / Kodak...

Bubba gumps, Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs and sometimes nothing beats a Denny's lumberjack slam for brekkie!!

I'm an ice-cream nut so I'm wondering which ice-cream stores/chains people would recommend as must try while in the US? Plus any small independent stores in Anaheim, Las Vegas or San Francisco :)

The only one people have recommended so far is Ben & Jerry's but there has to be more!!

Hi, there is a Cold Stone Creamery opposite the Sth Harbor entrance to Disneyland ( in front of Park Vue Inn I think?)
We liked the Gibson Girl Sundaes in Disneyland. And in DCA there is now Ghirardellis. Can't wait to try there :) .Also Clarabelles Handcooped Icecream is also in DCA.
