My Very Merry Christmas Celebration ~Updated 8/12

Before I begin let me warn you that this will be a trip down memory lane. I also want to let you know that spelling and punctuation is not my strong point, so I apologize in advance. History was my favorite subject in school. Now please take a walk down memory lane with me.

My family always took vacations somewhere together. We would go camping in NH and go to Santa's Village and Story Land. These always included a trip up Mt. Washington too. We went to Pennsylvania a few times. We went to see the red sand of PEI. We loved to travel. Well one year my parents decided it was time to go to Disney World. I don't know how or when they decided this but they did decide to go and not only was it just going to be our family. We were going to be traveling with another family. Our pastors family. Now this might not seem like a big deal after all they were and still are like family. So picture in your mind, if you will, my mom, my dad, myself (6), and my little brother (4).
Our traveling companions consisted of Mr. A, Mrs. A (and baby she was about 6 ½ months pregnant), K (16), T (14), J (11), D (8), S (5), and B (2). So if you are quick at math you see that that is quite the van load of people. Yes I said van. You see we all rode together, in one van. :scared1: Yes 12 people in a touring van. :scared1: Our van had a big bed in the back and a small sink and fridge. That. Is. All. The adults decided that we would travel from Maine to Florida this way. My mom and Mrs. A got dibs on bed space and the men folk took turns driving and they also had the front seats. This was obviously before the days of seat belt requirements. I really don't know what the adults were thinking. They decided we would leave on 12/27. We had a birthday party for my mom before all piled into the van to leave. I know we left at night because it was dark and we all fell asleep pretty quick. We did stop at friends and family places along the way. When we arrived in Florida we went to my dad's Uncle Pete's house. We stayed there for a few days. We went to WDW, Epcot, Circus World, and Bush Gardens. We also borrowed Pete's camper and we all camped at the beach. Then after that we started back to Maine on 1/10, which was K's 16th bday. Yes we did have a party before we set off. To this day our parents said we were all really good on the trip. I don't know if that is true or if they I only have a few pictures of this trip because my parents have them all and they are on slides. I do have few that were made into prints in a scrapbook my parents had made for me. However, we just moved and it is still packed away. When I find it I will post some pictures.

The parts of WDW that I remember are the castle, riding the monorail, and standing with the characters with random people. I remember riding Pirates, It A Small World, Dumbo, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Peter Pan, the original Tiki Room, Haunted Mansion, and seeing the Hall of Presidents. Epcot had just opened and I remember that there was still some construction going on. I remember getting something to eat from one of the countries. I think it was Mexico. I remember walking through a tunnel that had lights in it and going on a ride that started inside but went outside at some point. If you know the names of the rides please feel free to share.

The two days that I mentioned were the result of two separate short term missions trips that I took. The first was a trip when I was 15 ('92) to Bolivia and the second one at 16 ('93) (my favorite one) was to Indonesia. The ministry that I went abroad with was headquartered in Kissimmee. After we would return to the USA they would send us to one of the 3 parks of our choice for the day. The first year I went with my teammates to MGM because I didn't want to go alone and I had never been there before. The second year was just because that is where all my friends went.

I forgot that you are originally from Maine. We have already taken the kids to Storyland this year and plan to go back in the fall :goodvibes

We always went to at least one of them as a day trip every summer. Many summers we would camp for a long weekend and do both. I will see if I can get some pictures from those trips too. It will be neat to see how much has changed.

Two weeks and annual passes??? Color me jealous! :goodvibes I'm really, really excited for you.

The new little man in my household may dictate my posting schedule, but I just wanted to let you know I am here and I am reading! :thumbsup2

I am glad you made it over. I totally understand the whole reading and posting thing. I am always reading yours too but I don't always post (though I have been trying not to be so shy).:flower3:

We were always in NH too. Usually the Lakes region. And we never made it to Story Land. We were Benson's Animal Farm people instead.

Ahhh, yes. The days before characters had 'handlers'. I have some real gems in some of my pics. LOL!

No reason to be shy, my dear! We're all pirate: on my trip reports! ;)

My first trip to Disney was a little like yours, but in a RV with my parents, brother, grandparents and uncle. :rotfl2: It was a loooooong drive!

The When: November 28 – December 12, 2010 Two glorious weeks!!!

The Where: POP Century

How great is this??? :dance3:

Can't wait to see so many holiday pictures, since we have no Thanksgiving or Christmas trip this year.
You have a mission to bring us some Disney holiday happiness! :santa:

See we never went anywhere else. I am guessing because we were always outside in nature and things like that because my dad was a Forest Ranger and now he is Park Ranger for the State. I think my dad was thinking it was his vacation too and he liked to make us happy because he never got to do things like that when he was a kid.

I think most of our pictures we are only with the other kids in our group. We were such a large group that we crowded everybody out. :rotfl: I do know that there are a few that have just my brother and I and a random kid in with us.

I know and no body has hurt me yet.;)

I can imagine. I really don't remember to much of the drive but I think we traveled at night a lot. I was talking to my last night and she reminded me that we only stayed in a hotel for 2 nights the whole trip. She also reminded me that we went to Louisiana too. So I apparently didn't remember as much as I thought I did. :lmao:

I am so glad you are here. You are one of the reasons I decided to go for 2 weeks. You are always saying that 10 days was a good trip but that you thought 2 weeks would be just about right. :goodvibes

I will take lots of pictures for you. I hope they are as good as yours are. :goodvibes

Hey, I'm here! Your family is so cute! You are going to absolutely love Pop Century--we loved it in 2007! Can't wait for more. . .

I'm in for the ride!!! Two weeks!!! :cloud9: And I love that you haven't told your daughter yet...that will be a very fun surprise. She is gonna love Pop!

The trip in the giant van....wow. :scared1: All those adults were very, very brave!

:welcome:

They were very brave. Part of me really wants to tell Lexi on her bday (which is the 16th) but then another part of me wants to wait until we get a little closer to the trip. If I tell her on her birthday then I thought I could have her help me make a countdown calendar. We will hit 100 days 4 days after her bday. I think that is a long time for a 5 year old to countdown though.

The Trip That I Thought Would Never Happen

Now this trip has been many years in the making. We had originally scheduled our first trip for September of 2004. Does any one remember what happened in Florida in 2004? It was a very active year for hurricanes. Hurricane Frances was scheduled to make landfall the same day we were scheduled to fly into Orlando. So we postponed our trip. Then Jon started to get really homesick and wanted to see his parents. They never, well hardly ever, come to visit us even though they are retired. It really bothers Jon but that is another story. So with a promise made that we would go next year I gave in and said ok we can go. So went in October to Montreal to visit my in-laws. We had a nice Thanksgiving with some friends and then the beginning of December I didn't feel so great. Yes you are right I was pregnant with Alexia. I found out my due date was August 18th, 2005. Well there went our trip in '05. I didn't mind though because we had thought we weren't going to have any kids as we had been trying for 2 years. In fact the day before we found out I was pregnant we were saying that not having kids wasn't going to be to bad because then we could travel, something I enjoy and Jon really wants to do. Don't you love God's sense of humor.:rotfl:

So for the next few years I thought about when we could Lexi to WDW. So soon our 10th anniversary was coming and thought what better way to celebrate then with a trip to WDW. So I booked it for November of 08 when my parents could watch Lexi. Then I lost my job. So I pushed it back to May of 09 the month of our anniversary. While we still weren't back on our feet so pushed it to Novenmber of 09. I told Jon on his birthday in September and he was shocked. He was all excited and then when he told his buddies they couldn't believe we would want to take a trip to WDW without Lexi. Then he started to feel guilty and I knew that if he was feeling like that he wouldn't enjoy the trip. I knew that if he wasn't enjoying it he would make sure I wasn't enjoying it. So we pushed it back again to this November. I really wanted to see the Christmas decorations because Christmas is my favorite time of year. I told Jon that if he tried to cancel I was going to go on my own. He knows I am serious. Now you may ask why we just didn't go last year with Lexi as she was old enough, but we don't have credit cards. We save and pay for what we need up front. We do have one for emergencies but a vacation is not an emergency. I would like to say that my TA never complained or said anything about all the changes I made. She has been very helpful and understanding in all of this. I am booked with Dreams Unlimited so if you need an agent I would be happy to give you her name.

I see no reason at this point in time why this trip won't happen. I had only had a little bit left to pay on our trip but I had resisted paying it off just in case Free Dining was released. Well the day came and it was released. Even with paying the upgrade from QSD to DDP it was enough to pay the $400.00 I stilled owed and I still got a refund of $200.00. So I was able to save $600.00 with FD!!!! I bought our plane tickets to Florida on Southwest but have not bought our return tickets yet. I am waiting to see if the price drops some as last I checked they were still $191 a person. I don't have a problem staying in Florida.
