Pop Century Room Renovations

And this is why many of us won't get on these gondolas .......... and we hope they will maintain bus service.

http://wdwnt.com/blog/2017/06/break...lls-off-monorail-service-currently-suspended/

you have to remember that the monorail has been through 45+ years of wear and tear. the gondolas will be brand new with new technology and modeling. I'm not saying there won't be any problems ever, because any system like that will occasionally, but i would guess the new gondolas won't have exactly the same problems as the old monorails.

Everyone should obviously make their own choice of what they feel comfortable with, but I'm still going to ride the gondolas when they're open and the monorail. The monorail ride into EPCOT is one of my favorite parts of a disney trip.

I would think it would still be an option. I wouldn't see why not. There should be a list of things you can ask for from the front desk to see if its even feasible.
When we were at the Poly last year, we requested an alarm clock and they brought one up no problem. We ended up using our phones anyway because the alarm on our clock was like a baby bird cheeping, but they did honor the request.

Baby bird chirping? That wouldn't wake me.

I plan to bring a travel alarm if I stay there in the future.

Yeah, I find it a bit of a stretch to compare the two, but I'm not going to force anyone to ride the gondolas. Shorter lines for those of us that do!

Based on what everyone is seeing now, what are the chances of the 80s section rooms being completed by the end of July?

^^^THIS^^^ What are people onsite seeing now? We don't need pics through the curtains, but it would be really helpful to know if/when rooms in subsequent buildings look like gutted shells or have furniture being installed or look practically ready to open.

If it's going to take 3 months per building, then 9 will be early Aug and 7 will be early Sept. if it's 2 months, make that early July and early August. If it's 2.5 (which is what I keep theorizing/hoping), mid July and mid August.

Did we ever get actual measurements of the spaces?

Not that I've seen, and I've been pretty obsessive in following this thread. Is it time for another wish list?

Actual measurements of cubbies?

Actual measurements of safe interior and what would fit re laptops / large items?

I'd like to see pics of a "shower only" showing the end / wall with the shower heads / controls.

Although I don't need the Murphy so this is just academic, I would still like to see a video of the Murphy being operated, preferably by one person who is not a big strong man.

What else are we missing?

ETA: oh, I guess actual tape measure measurements of the Murphy mattress so we can finally have a final confirmed answer to the bed size.

Oops, forgot a big one: reports on fitting air mattress, cot, pack & play, where and how.

Does is make any difference if you make a room request 6 months out as opposed to a week out?? Like, should I put in a room request now for a trip in December or am I safe to do it closer to my trip? I REALLY want refurbed connecting rooms but was waiting to see what the progress was before I requested the section (hoping for 70s section!) :-)

Usually best to wait closer to your arrival date. Touring Plans has a function that faxes room requests 5 days before your arrival, so I'd say to do the same. Good luck!

I will admit, the new bathrooms look spectacular. I like the modern, home-like touch to them. Already an improvement in Value Resort bathrooms. As for the room itself, I guess you would have to experience in person to find out.

If you are worried about the motion sensors in the room, just purchase a balloon and let it run freely around the room when you are gone.
This was actually suggested by the manager of housekeeping at Port Orleans as my friend has asthma and was afraid the air would shut off during the day.

Sorry if all this has been asked however I just discovered this thread and after reading a few pages I find that taking on 77 more pages to hopefully find an answer may be VERY time consuming so again, sorry if this has been asked......

Are they doing the updates randomly when rooms are empty or are they doing updates by building?
If by building, have they completed any and which ones?

I think they look amazing. We have a stay here booked for August, another for October and still one more for November and I'm wondering about requesting them.
TIA and once again, cause I haven't said it a ton yet, sorry if I'm reasking what has already been asked.

Welcome aboard! :wave2:

Renovations are going in order one building at a time. Bldg 8 (90s) started closing in early March and just opened to guests the first full week of June. (ETA, well not exactly one at a time since 2 bldgs are being worked on right now, but once they close a building they will redo all the rooms in that bldg.)

Bldg 9 (80s) started closing in early May and Bldg 7 in early June. These are the 80s buildings; construction is going on but we don't really know the status or when they will open.

They are working their way backward through the decades, with Bldg 2 in the 50s said to be the last building they will finish.

I keep trying to puzzle out a logical schedule, but without knowing how long they will take per building after the initial one, it's hard to say.

First off the monorails are not 45 years old. They were replaced. And now they are at an age that they might need to be replaced again. Maybe Disney needs to address that before stepping off into a new transportation mode. But I think you missed the point, that's okay.

And of course everyone should do what they want, which is why I posted that ...... to the many who seem to think that a gondola should be the only option at POP and the other two resorts, and that Disney won't/shouldn't offer buses to the guests who don't wish to dangle from the air for various reasons .... including the ongoing monorail issues.

I hope they give bus option too, not that I'm adverse to gondola, but because some are adverse to it, and if they are putting those big gondolas in, it's standing only and at peak times it will be a sardine can. It's not going to be the pleasant sightseeing trip some envision unless it's at non peak times. I don't know where strollers or evc would go? They take up a lot of room. I can see a lot of feet and shins being bruised. At deluxe resorts, they have monorail and boat option to MK. And WL has boat and bus option. I know Pop isn't a deluxe, but they should keep bus option.

They have a capacity per gondola that they will not exceed. Usually around a dozen people. They will not cram people into a gondola like sardines. The wait will be increased during the peak times, but you wont be forced to squeeze more than the amount it was made to hold.

Where did you see the article on WDW Gondola? Would love to read more about it. The mountain gondola they have locally here fit way more than 12, so I was thinking it was going to be like that. Sounds like the WDW ones will be more like the smaller, continuously running ones at the ski resorts.

Anyway the TC of this or the official PoP Resort topic can edit in which builds are completed and currently being worked on?
Maybe add it on the first page so new viewers and old dont have to skim through all the pages.
