Gulf State Park Dismeet 2018: Sand, Sun, and Puzzles...

Almost only counts in Horseshoes, Hand Grenades and Atom Bombs Don't need to hit Bullseye to get the points

Bad news all around today. We had had to change our trip to GSP. We will come for 2019. We have our last deployment on Memorial Day weekend, while I got out of traveling to Canada because of the dogs I did not get out of support. It did not seem much fun to go to GSP and be stuck the whole week with bad internet and my computer.

Also on the bad news front, yeti is gone. He left us on Saturday. You can check the RIP thread. We are crushed.

More later trying to survive at the moment.

Sorry to hear this sad news about Yeti, he was the real star of GSP. And I along with everyone else will miss seeing yall this year.

So sorry for your loss. Our pets become such a part of our family and who we are. We will miss seeing Yeti in your trip pictures.

I posted a reply on the RIP thread, but again will express my deep remorse.

Ole Tiggerdad had shed a tear here in the clinic this morning when I heard about this.

Also sorry to hear you won't be able to make the trip for GSP this year either. I understand work is a must. It has now cost us two Disers on the meet this year including Teamubr. You will all be missed, especially by the girls who always looked forward to seeing the Rockstars.

Our prayers, but more so our thanks for letting us be a part of Yeti's life here on the boards and at the campgrounds. He'll be greatly missed by us.

Thank you Michael. It is very hard and i am crying a lot. I knew it would be hard to post on here but it is comforting hearing from people, even though it makes me sad. I shared the rock stars and i know the girls loved him and unlike some (sorry Bama Ed and Ian) he loved your girls.

Kris and Bert we are so sorry about Yeti. Emma will certainly cry when she gets home from school. She always asks are the dogs coming camping this time. People that haven't raised dogs don't understand they are family to us. You are allowed to grieve. We also hate you can't make it this year. If you had a Verizon hot spot you would have great internet there. But it's your decision and there is always next year.

Sweet Maxine, In the past they taught me that if you are there camping you have until 9 or 10 (?) on your check out day to extend or check out by 2. To extend you have to go up to the check in point and inquire. It seems like they give registered campers priority over others in the past. The two times I did this we were able to stay with little to no trouble. But I can't promise that will happen so it is your risk if you want to come down and try. And as Michael or someone said it has been booked solid for about a year now.

Michael the big gator we saw on the canal loop between the lakes was about as big as the one with Jim Carrey. He should be fun to wrestle.

I felt good enough to go retrieve me camper from the dealer again. I think they may have finally gotten the slide fixed correctly. FtW-Mike I feel your pain. I had to make three trips over 140 miles each way and leave my camper a month or more each time just to get the slide motor fixed under warranty.

On a personal level, I'm still healing from surgery and hope to be around 75 pct when we get to the Gulf. Still have a lot of aches and weakness but that hopefully will go away with time.

thanks joe. I guess we will be together in that time will heal all wounds. I know it will be a while but it hurts like crazy.

Kris (and Bert),

Nothing else I can add other than Godspeed Yeti.

I feel like sharing. On the way home on Saturday we were trying to think of happy memories of yeti and the best story we had that made us smile was the baby bunny incident. I know tiggerdad rembers the story. It made us laugh and cry. Later that night my FB memory from 4 years ago was the baby bunny incident night 1. I had no idea that our funny story happened exactly 4 years ago. We laughed and cried some more. I can’t share the story here. I really think I need to tell the story, but for those that heard it, you remember how good it was, at my expense of course.

Ah Killer Bunnies I Know it all too well. When we moved here in 2003 we had Harmony a 17 yr old Bearded Collie Mix. Harmony was a Homedog from Brooklyn. She knew squirrels and hated them but had no clue what a bunny was. We told her that her job was to protect us from the Killer Bunnies. Here we have the ability to let her out into the yard by just opening the door. After waking up after our first night here I let her out and got some coffee and see her hauling tail for the deck from behind the pool. As I let her in, from behind the pool comes a little bunny hopping . It wasn't till Jan when we got WookieBear that she was brave enough to scare them off

Oh yeah! That was a good one for sure!

I remember Yeti from last year's GSP meet being inside the mosquito net with yeti laying on the ground between Burt and I and every once in a while he would look up at me with that "This may be your site, but inside this netting you belong to me" look on his face.

Kris and Burt, sorry about your loss. We will miss you at GSP.

Well worked on the truck over the weekend, put in the brake controller. Went to take the truck to work on Monday and it would not start. Hoping to get it up and running again by Friday. Have a shop to build me a mount and install my RV hitch, as soon as I get the truck running again. Always something, just really don't need this aggravation right now. But let's get it fixed right before the long trip South.

Chris hope you get things squared away quickly and cheaply. With luck it will just be a bad starter or loose connection

Yea, Michael, Yeti did have that look of “this is my family - don’t mess with them, or I end it.” Even as he got weaker that never changed. I have to remember that this was a dog, that to the best of our knowledge, was trained to guard goats, failed at it, was a stray in the North Georgia Mountains, then we got him. At least he found something to protect.

Good avatar picture Bert.

I will miss Yeti barking at me (which he usually did every time we were together) at Gulf this year. I had learned to maintain a respectful distance because I recognized who the Alpha male was between the two of us. :worship:

Well shortly it will be on the way to the garage. Probably a new starter, was told they have the wrong one in it, and an electrical harness.
