Great Movie Ride closes for Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway

At least now DHS has 4 BRAND NEW attractions .... that will spread out the crowds and put the pressure off the other rides and shows. A park going from 5 ride attractions to 9 in just a few years is an amazing transformation of what was getting to be a very stale park. Makes me excited for the Epcot overhaul as well.

The downside .. this will draw a TON of people to a very small park. Will DHS see as much upswing in attendance as AK did after Pandora?
The park has/will have 3 brand new attractions but is actually a net increase of 0 attractions. MMRR is replacing GMR, the 2 Star Wars attractions replaced the Backlot Tour and LMA (OK, The Backlot Tour and LMA wasn't a rides per say but they were attractions). You could argue the TSL added a net add of 2 but TSL isn't "new" like SW:GE is, it's been open for almost a year and a half. TSMM isn't new, it was just enlarged with the entrance point changed. It was around before I left the company.

I would say that the new add's are a huge plus to the park and certainly worthy of excitement but the geek in me just had to say this. I will miss GMR, too bad we couldn't have kept GMR and still added MMRR someplace else in Studios.

I still think despite all the additions DHS is still in need off low effort/planning attractions. I too wish they could have kept GMR along with MMRR.

DHS is still a (good number of) attractions with somewhat high wait times plus shows.

Makes me wonder what the SB line will look like too.
This is going to be the highest capacity ride in the park, or at worst, equal to TOT.

So I imagine the standby waits will be OK after opening day (assuming it runs close to the intended operational capacity).

Wait times should drop somewhat at other rides with MMRR coming on board. And FP+ availability for SDD and MFSR will get easier.

Ooh I'm curious about this. Currently slated to stay on site for my trip in April (Rival Run weekend) but been thinking of going to a cheaper off site hotel and renting a car to give myself more flexibility for getting around (plus prices have come down on nearby hotels so it looks like it'll be cheaper). Obviously early access to FP is a benefit to staying on site but do we think FPs will be gone by the time people staying off site have a chance at it? I guess I have to keep an eye on this thread and see if the early April FPs start to disappear.

Bear in mind I don't have much experience with scheduling FPs so if I'm misunderstanding how this works that's why.

Toy Story Mania is around 2000/hr with the third track. Star Tours and ToT around that 1800 range.

Will the capacity be better than GMR? In its last few years of existence, I never got the kids on it (though they were really young, so I wasnt trying REAL hard. Since GMR was Tier 1, I never got a FP for it and felt the standby was never short enough to just pop in (but again -- I didnt really try, but walking by it, was never felt like it was short enough to just jump in line.

GMR had about a 2400/hr capacity so no.

Also incase you guys didn’t notice along with MMRR HS also dumped a bunch of other tier 1 fastpasses for Smugglers Run and Slinky Dog.... a lot of availability open right now for March and April that was not available last night even!

That article is pre-third track. Third track opened in 2016.
I understand but the article posted it as 900. The third Track didn’t double the capacity, it increased it by 50%, Unless I fundamentally misunderstand how that third track works.

I have found that when TP/Len Testa(who literally sit there and count), or Martin (who seems to know people) post OHRCs on their blogs or WDWMagic, they are always substantially lower (sometimes even less than half) of what’s reported on the google machine or some of the leading Disney Blogs. For example that same article, you can back out what TP thinks Star Tours capacity is by reversing the math on their table (675/25*60) and it’s 1,620.

Both of these have TSMM higher than 1300. 1300 is lower than Flight of Passage. Waits are still decent for TSMM since the third track addition but they were reduced pretty reasonably. I can'y imagine it is lower than FoP currently.
