Price increase -- It's Here! (2/11/20)

Ive heard ares travel is good, Get Away Today will price match, I just bought tickets from them, and they gave me the UT price, they just had to look it up on their computer, I wonder what there prices will be like after the 20th.

I was just thinking the same thing the other day. I really do wonder when enough enough?? :scared: I imagine it will always continue to increase. It’ll be $300 a day and MaxPass will be $100 before we know it. I mean I’m sure 50 years ago no one would have guessed we’d pay as much as we do now.

It's insane that a 5 day trip to Disneyland is now more expensive than a 5 day trip to Hawaii at a nice resort.

And us Canadians have a 30-35% markup on those prices for the exchange rate. Ouch!

I was talking to my dad about the price increase and he said “thank goodness Disney was cheaper when you were a kid. We wouldn’t pay these current prices parents are paying to take their kids”...

This was done based on 2019 prices...

Disneyland admission cost $2.50 in 1955 compared to a $129 “regular” park ticket today, an increase of 5,060%, according to the study. Disneyland admission today costs more than 50 times as much as it did on opening day, the study found. Adjusted for inflation that ticket would be $23.89 in 2019.

The 1955 Disneyland admission price was based on an adult “Deluxe 15” ticket book that included admission to the park and 15 attractions.

Scary how much we are willing to pop at these days.🤑

Do you think Disney will ever reach a ceiling with ticket prices or is it unlimited?

As long as the economy stays healthy we won't see an end to price increases. Disney could raise prices even higher and not see much of an attendance drop off. I have seen no evidence that people have stopped coming to the parks due to high prices. Last Summer Disneyland was very slow but that was due to people expecting massive crowds rather than price increases.

Disneyland draws visitors from cities with very high incomes like San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle. The average job in these cities pays six figures. These people have plenty of disposable income. Many of my neighbors are buying $60,000 Teslas. They spend money like it is burning a hole in their pocket.

I'm not sure that disposable income is the problem as much as it is the value. The rich stay rich by not blowing money on things that aren't worth the cost. Plenty of people, including our family, can easily afford it but at that point when it's the same price as a vacation somewhere else...not sure the value is there anymore. I get the argument about a musical or sporting event being the same price, but Disney is starting to exceed the average price of an event like that. And I do not waste $200+ seats on a 4 year old.

The other problem is, how many people actually just go for one day and are NOT AP holders? when it starts to creep to $100/day not including maxpass even for multi-day passes...we'd sooner go to Mexico, or Hawaii, and we're approaching the cost of Europe.

I agree its very expensive but when we go to Hawaii I usually factor in a bigger ' entertainment budget' for things like tours, beach rentals a car rental etc which ends up being the same or more than the cost of the passes. Ymmv.

We get excellent value out of the flexpass. It was $599 per year and we go on 4 or 5 trips to DL per year. Seems like our new hockey team in Seattle is going to be charging $500 to $600 a ticket for one game. You add $50 for parking, $10 in highway tolls, $20 for beers, $25 for a hamburger. They have to pay back the billion dollars they spent retrofitting an old arena somehow. They didn't get any public handouts from the city. I think Disney offers excellent value in comparison.

Been to a Madonna concert lately?

I think people should put these things into context. A few hours at a concert can cost hundreds as can a day tour to the Grand Canyon. For one attraction. There are around 100 attractions across DL/DCA and more on the way. Some would argue it’s great value.

I’m not denying it’s a expensive holiday but you do get what you pay for. You can always choose not to pay the price. My Christmas trip was my last one for a few years, if not ever. Still had a great time though.

Our family went to the Washington State Fair in Puyallup 15 years ago. We blew threw $100 in ride tickets in 30 minutes. Was the last time we went. Disneyland is a much better value even today.

If I recall correctly in 1984 it was $15 when I used to go.
But there were ZERO high technology mega expensive rides and one one park and flat lot parking in front of Disneyland. You don't want to know how inexpensive APs were in 1994- 1996 lol even with parking add on. Soooo cheap. And it was rarely crowded in Summer.

I bought my tickets through get away today to lock in the 2019 prices. It’s been a while since I’ve used them and I do remember having to trade in the paper tickets for a hard ticket at the turnstiles etc. With BG’s still going on I’m nervous about wasting time attaching tickets to the app and such the first day in the parks since we only have two days. Can I get my official tickets the night before our first park day at the ticket booth and have them scanned in and ready?

GAT sells etickets now.

Mine were emailed to me to be printed or scanned at the turnstiles and specifically say they can’t be added to the app since the ticket number will change.

This has been discussed in several threads. No one seems to understand why GAT recommends waiting. Yes, the number will change, but the app accounts for that and it happens on every ticket, not just those purchased through GAT and it's not a problem.
