Anyone else thinking of cancelling their fall room reservations because of Covid

We have a trip planned for early December and for right now we're keeping it. We made our park reservations the day the system went live. But are we going? If things are the way they are now, then, no, we aren't. For one thing, I'd have to quarantine for 14 days on both ends of the trip.

So far, our Sept.26-Oct. 2 trip is still on. But, if the numbers don't go down in FL then we may not be able to go if WDW shuts down again.

We bought DVC in May 2019. We used our welcome home booking for BCV September 2019. Our trips earlier this year have been canceled due to park closure. We have a trip booked for March 2021 but I really hope things get better so we can make this September trip.

I am booked for the 1st week of Dec....I have not cancelled yet, I'll wait to the end of Oct to decide. I will lose the money for our flights (booked them too early, will never make that mistake again) but I won't go if masks are still required plus right now, there is still too much closed, no shows, no park hopping, etc. If I cancel ....I won't go back until Dec 2022...next year looks to be very crowded with so many people rebooking their trips for next year

We’re booked for November 2020 and will make a decision in September. I am pretty confident we won’t be going. My kids are little and love character meals and meet and greets. We love fireworks and there’s just too much closed that we would be interested in doing. Also my youngest is 4 and it sounds like Disney is pretty strict with masks (which is fine). My youngest really only wears it to the grocery store with me and I can’t see her wearing it for hours. I don’t even want to lol

We had a March 2020 reservation that was cancelled in March by Disney and we rescheduled for early October 2020. Strongly thinking about cancelling again. I’m fearful about going into Florida at this point. Anyone else trying to decide about cancelling for fall?

I just got back from WDW. It's not as scary as you think, and Disney is doing a great job enforcing the rules. We chose to completely stay in the Disney ecosystem and rented a car instead of using the buses, but at no point did I feel unsafe.

Yes, we have a weekend trip planned in November and a week in December. We are total wait-and-see mode. A lot of it will have to do with how comfortable we feel traveling by plane at that point and also if travel restrictions are lifted for CT both going and coming back. We would not have time to quarantine on either end.

I’m thinking of cancelling not so much because I feel unsafe but I am having a hard time paying full price when so many experiences aren’t available! I trust Disney and it sounds like they are doing such a great job with the safety of everyone!

Not yet. We saw how much changed in a three month span when this all started, so I will wait until much closer to October to decide if we should cancel our trip. Unless things get worse, the only thing stopping us would be the FL and NY quarantine mandates. We would not be able to abide by either of those, and if one or both are still in place come October, we will be forced to cancel. The park restrictions, closures, shortened hours, and required masks are not deal breakers for us. Not our ideal scenario of course, but would be better than nothing to us.

We have a November trip scheduled. We are doing watchful waiting. Alot can happen in 4 months as we all know. It is only DH and I and we go alot. We go mainly to chill out and take a break from the day to day routine. If it looks OK then we will go. If not, we have a May 2021 trip too. We wear masks at home, social distance, and wash our hands alot. We can do that at Disney too.

I understand. For what it is worth, my younger kids were able to talk to the characters. When they appeared at the train station, you can get close enough underneath to hold a conversation...and if you want, head over to behind the popcorn stand next to city hall and you will be about 10 feet away as they head out of the area (they come down the ramp right there and go behind city hall when they are done). We had our 1 year old dressed as Gaston and Gaston spent some quality time talking him up and posing for him for a nice social distance.

We will wait and see but if things remain the same we will be cancelling.

In the waiting group for mid-October. Because of Florida numbers, daughter and son-in-law both would have to quarantine at home for 2 weeks unpaid. We also will incur airfare change fees. Mostly waiting to see what the virus looks like in a couple of months, and whether Delta extends the waivers. We actually thought about flying into MCO and heading to Keys or Georgia coast, but they feel more unsafe to me than Disney at this point.

My brother lives an hour from Orlando and keeps begging me to reconsider my mid-October trip; I just keep telling him I have time to decide. I did book a backup trip in March just in case...

I haven't canceled yet for late August, but I'm mentally preparing myself to. I have a few weeks before I need to cancel, so I can still hope for a miraculous turnaround in FL's COVID numbers.

After that we have end of September into October to worry about, but I'll put that off until after deciding on the August trip.

I've already had a March and May canceled on me, so I'm getting used to disappointment.

We had an April trip to WDW/UO (just one day/nt at each with the rest of the time in Sarasota visiting family) and we moved it to August. We're going through with it. I posted this in another thread but still applies so figured I'd just C&P ha.

I will say this, just looking at numbers in a state doesn't tell the full story. It's not like just crossing the state lines into Florida is gonna get you sick. There are still LOTS of ways you can minimize your risk. As someone who lives in a pretty dang hot hotspot (Charleston, SC), a lot of the increase in numbers are due to younger people (30 and under) being irresponsible, going to crowded bars/clubs, parties, etc. We've made the decision that hiding in our houses waiting for this to go away ain't going to work, BUT we still 100% want to be as safe as we can reasonably be. So, we wear our masks, wash our hands, use our best judgement to avoid situations we don't think are safe, etc. We go to a restaurant that isn't socially distancing, we'll go elsewhere. We see a big group of people clumped together, we walk the other way. With the extensive precautions they're taking, I honestly think theme parks like WDW and UO are safer than a lot of grocery stores or gas stations I've been to.

At the end of the day, yes, there's risk involved no matter what you're doing, short of just staying at home, but if you're smart and responsible, you can really minimize that risk not only for yourself, but for others, while still living your life and maybe having a little fun too.

For anyone flying on Southwest ...We got emails today that they are rerouting our DIRECT flight home through a stop before hand at Chicago. Our adult daughter who was on same direct flight is being rerouted to DC and then home. Our adult son now has two stops before arriving in his home state. This is a dealbreaker. Not going through multiple airports and planes during Covid. I could try to reschedule again but it looks like SW just arrived at a deal a few days ago with employees about leave of absences. I think they will be taking more of the flights off their schedule 🙁

If my brother in Florida said stay home I would surely be crying. He's right though and we are about a day and a half from just bagging December.

This was one of the many reasons we cancelled our July family reunion. Too many flight changes for family members traveling long distances. We cancelled that in May when cases around us were still quite low, and seeing what happened since I am glad we did.

My Oct SW flight was changed today, but only by a half hour and is still (for now) non-stop. At this point I am waiting it out to see what the situation will be before I cancel anything. Hoping it improves in 3 months!

We are also considering cancelling end of August. It was originally scheduled for May. Already cancelled airlines with full refund due to their change. So maybe that is another good reason to cancel?? I really hate to cancel but have an October trip with a good friend!!
