Circumpolar Race Around the World (CRAW)

I am Mark in Houston and nice to meet everyone. I am struggling with some kind of left sided, back/calf/ankle issue. Taking a few days off from running and biking to try to get it sorted. I will make up the distance when I get back to normal ;) My wife and I are signed up for Dopey (fingers crossed) and would like to meet up with the team.

Well, I just went to look to see how close we were to 200 miles - and we are at 219 miles. It would be interesting to see all of our activities chronologically as a team. But I suppose we don't actually put in the time of day that we run, just the date, so it's not really possible to do that.

Maybe the question now is when will we reach 300 miles?

I didn't run in Mexico today, but a couple of photos from Rock Creek National Park, where I did run.

I'm Patrick from Atlanta/Frisco depending on the day of the week. I certainly have lots of problems, but not sure running is one of them!

Great first week by the team! Finished my week with 7 this morning. Was a small drop-back week for me in my HM training for November, but man, looking at a lot of your miles, I definitely feel my role on this team will be that of the caboose!

I like the Michigan connections! But I am originally from California (and hope to get back there one day). Just like @avondale and @camaker my spouse is also from Michigan (and in part why the Mitten State is my home now).

Was planning to get in a 10K for a virtual race with my daughter this morning, but she is feeling a little off today so we decided to wait until tomorrow. I will try to get in some walking miles today. I have to admit knowing I am part of this effort to get around the world has me feeling more aware of my miles! I need to be careful and not try to do too much. Famous last words...

Week 1 Update

As we close on the first week of CRAW (which actually included only six days), I just want to congratulate the team for a phenomenal start. Assuming everyone has posted all their mileage for the week, we have completed 11.6% (291 miles) of Region 1. Very impressive especially given that we have two folks working on some injuries. Once we are back full force, we will only get better! At this rate, we should complete Region 1 on about October 22nd. This rate would also correspond to completing the entire CRAW in about 1 year 8.5 months.

In case anyone hasn't posted mileage for this past week, you have until midnight tomorrow (Monday) night before this past week is locked-in.

Also, to keep this thread somewhat Disney related, I think we should periodically included a Disney thought, quote, or inspiration. I will start with a Mary Poppins quote: "There’s the whole world at your feet."

Tough weekend for me doing nothing and feeling blah. I did a 15 mile bike test ride tonight with no leg or back issues. I will be trying a run tomorrow to see how that goes. Signed up for a 100 mile race in December that I hope will be a good effort for the team. Heigh ho!

So that looks like about Oct. 22 to finish the region? Not bad! Interesting that the cumulative mileage is so linear, but it's only been a week.

I assume it's just making an assumption that we keep the same pace so far for the rest of the time which likely won't happen. Will be fluctuations here and there especially when in-person long races come back.

The scale of the graph makes it look more linear than it really is. As a team, our daily mileage has fluctuated between 37.6 miles and 58.2 miles, but it's hard to tell a 20 mile daily swing on a graph with a y-axis of 3,500 miles.

Excel uses a best fit line (least squares method) for the linear prediction, so yes, it roughly assumes we keep the same pace, but not exactly. The current calculation assumes we average ~48 miles per day (i.e. the slope of the line).

That being said, I think several of us are currently on an increasing weekly mileage trend as we are ramping up training. Also, as we currently have a couple injuries, there may be a potential increase in team mileage as those injuries heal. Therefore, our mileage pace may actually increase in the short-term. But yes, over the long-term (multiple regions of the race), we will likely have folks take a week or two to recover from races, additional injuries, etc. For example, if Marathon Weekend happens, I expect there will be a slowdown in mileage in mid-January. The more days we have behind us, though, the better the predictions should become as we will have more data that incorporates the normal fluctuations of training cycles and injuries into the model.

Since we're both in Houston and both riding bikes at the moment, we should probably find a way to meet up for a ride....
