Norwegian Cruise Lines CEO: "Enough is Enough"

Oh please Americans visit Mexican cruises ports and numerous other tourist destinations in Mexico and don’t get kidnapped. The Covid rate doesn’t seem to be stopping Americans from visiting there either.
At this point we don’t know what ports are going to be open in a few months when cruising does resume.
Not my opinion on Mexico. The U.S. State Department. Take it up with them.

They had a level 4 warning for Mazatlan last year when we cruised out of SanDiego May 2019. It didn’t stop cruise lines from stopping there.

Even if Cruise lines resume operations out of FL or TX, there's NO place for them to go, the Bahamas is still closed to cruise ships until Phase 4, and they're only going to enter Phase 3 on Oct 31, Mexico is still closed, Columbia is still closed, Grand Cayman is still closed, Aruba is still closed, Bermuda is still closed, Virgin Islands (BVI- Tortola) is still closed, Canada is still closed, they're ALL still closed to Cruise ships so what would be the point of resumption of operations before the end of the year if there's no place for them to go??? That makes a lot of this arguing moot.

Glad your trip was safe.

* Colombia, not "Columbia"
And Mexico isn't closed, it's just that cruise lines aren't sailing there.
I'm sure Mexico will welcome with open arms any ship docking there. (they're dying for tourist dollars rn)
This article states (in spanish) that Cozumel expects ships in November, but really it's the cruise lines that keep postponing their return.

Aside from my unfortunate misspelling error, my post still stands, CRUISES are NOT able to sail to ANY of these destinations presently. So rushing and whining to restart cruises is utterly pointless at this time.

That’s fine. Then no harm in ending the CDC cruise ban then. Which ports do or don’t allow cruise ships is the cruise line’s problem to figure out, not the CDC’s. End the ban and let the cruise line’s deal with that problem.

I'm sure when the CDC gives their blessing the cruise lines will start going over the safety protocols with the different ports. Maybe not all ports in the Caribbean will welcome cruise ships, but my guess is there will be some.

Maritime law requires cruise ships departing a U.S. port to visit a foreign port before returning to the U.S. again. If there's no port to visit they can't even sail without breaking the law. Cruise lines wouldn't violate that requirement without serious consequences against them which could include shutting them down.

Yeah but restarting a cruise line period is not an easy process with all the crew coming back and so much more. Heck, if the CDC ended the ban TODAY they still probably would have lots of time to buy before Bahamas opens up (Phase 3 starts in a few days, here's hoping Phase 4 begins late 2020/early 2021. And DCL probably wouldn't restart ops the minute they could, but then again this is the year 2020 nothing will surprise me lol

We’re all aware of that, thank you. So once again, no harm in ending CDC ban then if according to you they have nowhere to go. Where the cruise lines have the ability to port is not the CDC’s problem, end the ban and let the cruise lines deal with that problem.

So no harm in them not ending the ban. They can use the time to study how and when cruising can safely resume.

Well, the earliest a DCL cruise would sail is November, because all prior cruises have been cancelled, and realistically probably mid December given the Nov and early Dec cruises are not bookable. So there’s not much point looking at current travel bans since who knows what Bahamas/Mexico etc will say months from now.

Travel bans and government conspiracy theories aside, I cannot imagine them doing all the work to decorate for just 2-3 Christmas cruises. That makes no sense.

Well, they cut back on WDW Christmas too (no castle lights/resort gingerbread houses/candlelight processional etc). I could see them doing some light Christmas decor and themed coffees and such and calling it a day on the cruise line. And before anyone says people won’t pay for a reduced experience... they will.

If you listen to the meeting of the port of Galveston Board on Sept 1st, they commented that during their discussions with DCL, DCL stated they weren’t going to do anything until the CDC ban ended. So yes, there is harm in not ending the ban. DCL is not going to go out and make port deals or any other plans on the resumption of cruising until they know what the CDC is going to do.
