Please help...I've rented points and need advice

I rented an exchange vacation from a DVC rental agency. They told me upfront what kind of rental it was and the extra fee involved. They gave us a guest certificate and the owner of the exchange put our names on the reservation. Absolutely zero issues. The cast members were very aware of how to deal with a guest certificate.

Yep, 99% of the time it will go fine. Cast members don't tend to be aware that there is a contract violation in play. However, member accounting is aware, and management is aware. Its likely to be fine because its unlikely that anyone who cares will find it. Of course cast members know how to deal with guest certificates, that's a perfectly legitimate way to exchange into DVC - what isn't legitimate is then selling the reservation.

Does this statement mean the castmembers were very aware it was illegal?
And cancelled it ?

Unfortunately, I have already paid in full. This was an auction listed on ebay.
:tinker: :tinker:that all goes well for you. Both RCI and Interval International forbid selling exchanges, and they can cancel the reservation with DVC if they find this out.

I would send the requested information for yourself and other guests and let the seller stay as primary guest. As others have said, you’ll be able to check in without that person being there, as long as you get a confirmation number that you can link to MDE. The seller will get that confirmation number from DVC - it’s different from the exchange company’s confirmation number.

Again, :tinker::tinker:for you.

Unless his name on the reservation puts you over the occupancy limit or you purchase a dining plan, I'd just let him leave his name on the reservation. Doesn't hurt anything. You will still be able to check in without an issue. (I also wouldn't do this again because I am risk-adverse, LOL).

From what I gather on TUGG, DVC’s former exchange program, RCI, wasn't very proactive in enforcing the prohibition against renting exchanges, the new program, IL, is much more proactive, & if they find out will cancel & block the person who rented from using the exchange program & not reinstate them until they’ve reimbursed the person they ‘rented’ to.
I personally wouldn‘t depend on the way things were in the past w/ RCI as being the way things will be w/ IL.

Might be why he wants to keep his name on the reservation. That way chances of getting found out are very small, IMO because the reservation will just look like he is staying with friends or family.

What happens when you check in and provide your credit card # to front desk?
Nothing special. The CMs do not care whose credit card is used to pay for room charges. Some guests present multiple credit cards. If the OP chooses, she can specify which guests have charging privileges when she gives them the credit card. We did that when there were children staying in the villa.

Nothing when we rented one of these reservations in August. We came in a day early using our DVC points, and the front desk even kept us in the same 1 bedroom. The cast members were very familiar with these exchange reservations.

There is no reason he needs to stay on it. But you won’t have a problem checking in if he remained.

I’d still just ask that he be removed sonce it can be done very easily.
Disagree with this based on experience a couple years back. Our renter left her name on the reservation as lead guest and we had an issue checking in to the extent we had to have her call the front desk at the Poly to affirm our status. Also she got added to our friends and family list as well via the confirmation # link I suppose but that was an easy fix. Personally to avoid a possible hassle I would be insistent on having the renter removed as lead … just my 2 cents

Me too. Chat works as well. I hate spelling out names and addresses and email addresses to someone over the phone. Much easier and less error prone to copy/paste it into chat or email.
Have used chat to do this in the past but it seems unless you are purchasing points chat won’t ‘chat’ with you much any more instead they refer you to call during members services business hours… any trick to get them to engage?

I have stayed on my family and friends reservationzas lead guest many times when not there. They had no problem checking in without me, when I wasn’t traveling with them.

But sounds like this is an exchange which is completely different.

You mag be getting the wrong chat people. I use chat all the time to do the things MS can do over the phone. Only thing they can not do is OTU points.

They even took care of transfers between my memberships for me.

My experience was different, wanted the OP to know … if my renter hadn’t been available to call the Poly desk we would not have been able to check in … maybe the folks at the desk that day were just incompetent but I would never chance that again if I found myself in a position to rent.

Apparently but I’m batting a 1000 for getting sent to MS call information for about the past year or so … used to be able to do everything via chat now as soon as I answer that my question involve a current reservation or anything other than buy more points I am directed to call

If you aren't logged in that will happen. Pre-logging in you will get a sales guide. Perhaps that is what is happening?

This isn’t a normal DVC rental the OP is dealing with. It is an exchange into the DVC system from RCI or Interval international. Totally different reservation with different rules.

I wish it were that but nah I log in every time

Understood but lead guest issue nonetheless … it happened in a regular DVC rental yes
