Get Excited: Downtown Disney Has Now Reopened Superthread!

Ive only been to DTD once since it opened and I loved being there, but I live a four hour drive away so I havent felt the need to go back. Im driving over tomorrow to see Buena Vista because it seems pretty close to certain that it’s going to be closed within a week at the most. Ive been to DCA probably a few hundred times but just for historical purposes alone I want to experience Buena Vista as it is because I doubt we will ever see it like this again in our lifetimes.

Different news outlets are saying different things, but the general idea seems to be that the San Joaquin Valley and Southern CA regions have low enough available ICU capacity to trigger the new Stay At Home order. According to Gothic Rosie, if the numbers remain this low by 12:59 pm PT tomorrow (Saturday), then the new restrictions will go into effect 24 hours from then (i.e. Sunday afternoon).

From the L.A. Times (regarding the San Joaquin Valley and Southern CA regions), "Friday’s numbers do not trigger the stay-at-home order. But if the percentages remain below 15% on Saturday, the order would be triggered as early as Sunday."

And from Gothic Rosie:

I’ll probably drop by for a few hours on Sunday morning :-).
If you do, please update us on how the new Stay At Home orders will affect DTD and BVS since they should start Sunday, e.g. what will stay open and what will close, etc. Hopefully the plaids can fill you in on anything else we might need to know for now. (I'm sure details will change as time goes on -- as with all things Disney.)

I usually leave no later than 1:00 but if I go tomorrow, I’ll see what I can find.

I saw Abby yesterday but only briefly. She seems fine :-).

This is so unfortunate. I don't know how the take out food places will continue unless people buy their food and then go eat it in their cars. I haven't been up there at all since the shutdown, but it seems like a lot of work to park, go buy take out and then go back to the car and then home. Candy - yes. A hot meal - no. I wonder what Knott's is going to do.

Stay at home order has been issued for SoCal counties effective midnight December 6 -

State’s Stay Home Order Triggered in Southern California Region, Effective December 6, Midnight

Ventura, CA - The State of California’s Stay Home Order will go into effect on Sunday, December 6 at midnight in Ventura County and in all Counties in Southern California, after the Southern California Region's hospital ICU capacity dropped below 15%. The order closes many businesses and activities and urges people to stay at home whenever possible.

The California Department of Public Health reported on Friday evening that Southern California's ICU capacity dropped to 13.1%, triggering the Stay Home Order.

Glad to hear that Abby is well. Have a good time tomorrow. We're going to try to stop by DTD today. Will post if we find out anything.

According to Fresh Baked, all dining at DTD (carts excepted) will be shutdown as of Monday.

That's not quite accurate. From the Disneyland website:
  • While the Downtown Disney District has begun a phased reopening, beginning Dec. 7, restaurants and dining locations that do not offer take-out will close. Select retail locations will remain open.
So, non-Disney owned locations which can offer take-out food will be able to remain open. However, the food must be consumed off property. There will be no dining at tables, on benches, while seated on the planters, etc. This means that masks will have to be worn at all times in DTD now.

DTD was more crowded today than we've seen in a while -- maybe since Halloween. There was a line to enter the Simba lot that started just north of Magic Way. The lot was pretty full (well over half) by 2 pm. There was a line to enter bag check that was 1/3 to 1/2 through the parking lot behind the AMC. We had a reservation at CCL and were told to go straight to temp. check. There were many, many plaids -- more than we usually see -- and we heard a surprising number of people asking for directions or about where to eat. So it seems that there were first time guests who visited today, maybe because they thought they wouldn't be able to visit again later. There weren't any virtual queues for stores we wanted -- just lines (about 20-30 minute waits). We were escorted to the DCA gate for our CCL reservation. DCA was fairly crowded. Long lines for the shops. Jingle bell glow cubes sold out yesterday, but other merchandise is holding out. Carthay was so nice -- like coming home :). The food was really good, and I thought maybe it was because we hadn't had it in so long, but then I saw Chef Sutton walking around, so that explained everything! The new snowflake glow cube is nice -- much nicer than the one from last year. It is thicker, glows, and flashes, too. It has a C in the middle. They were out of the special drink that it comes with, so we ordered it with something else; and our wonderful server gave us an extra snowflake to make up for being out of the first drink! We saw lots of suits observing everywhere and had a nice conversation with one manager. She said that they got the news today about closing non-take-out dining and it hit everyone hard. I told her that they had so much support here, and she said it meant a lot to hear that. Got ice cream at Salt & Straw (December flavors are fun!). When we left, the switchbacks for the line for security filled the AMC lot and more cars were lined up going up Disneyland Dr.

Someone from my job went today and they hadn't been at all since DTD opened. So they were probably some of the new people asking for directions lol. They did decide to go since they didn't know how long the closure will last for restaurants.

P.P.S. I’m leaving now and there is *no* line on the Simba side. Wow. Haven’t seen that in... ever.
Lastly, the folks at the BVS Starbucks told me that they’ll be closed after today. I wasn’t sure if the closure included beverage spots. Looks like it does.

I think the BVS Starbucks is Disney operated.

The ones at DTD will probably remain open

Also I think there is some confusion on when the stay at home order begins and what is open I see tons of questions on Facebook group asking If DTD is closed altogether today, but it’s not until midnight. So maybe that explains lighter crowds. Maybe people will come for the evening.
