MAYBE A MAY TRIP?? 3 WEEKS SAPPHIRE FALLS 2021

Ugh, your trip is off. :guilty:
So sad, guess I'll have to try to find time to look up old reports. Who am I kidding, I thought I was going to be on
forced retirement but another company I had been doing some part time work for, brought me on full time, so for now I have two full time jobs. I am managing to save a lot of money, so maybe at some point I can take a vacation:upsidedow

I'm also 71 and should be looking at retirement I suppose. I just keep getting calls to work in my highly specialized area where there aren't a lot of people with my skills. Oh well, keeps me out of the bars....wait, I don't drink...yet.:drinking:

Our household has all been vaccinated, my brother in law will be getting his next week, he's already been exposed 2 times as an essential worker. My state has done so well. We are at the top of the vaccinations administered. Nice to finally be at the top for something good. :dance3:

Tink......good to see you too!

I`m happy to hear your household has been vaccinated, and fingers crossed for your brother in law. To be exposed twice is indeed worrying. And excellent news your State is in good shape.....it`s good to hear more places are up there with the best. lol...yes, I was surprised the UK was as good with the vaccine programme, we`re usually at the cow`s tail!

If you`re happy still working and you`re in a specialised field, then carry on till you`ve had enough.....you`ll know when you`re ready, but goodness me.....you must be so busy with two jobs!!! Where do you get the energy......lol.......

And yes, I guess the silver lining of not travelling is not spending all that money.......hahaha......nah, I`d rather be spending it.....that`s what money is for.......::yes::

You`ll be ready for a vacation when that time comes around by the sound of it.......and hopefully it`s not going to be too long........:wave2:

I wanted to wish @Cara a very special :bday: today.....

Cara, I hope things are going well for you, I know it`s been a long year for you.......but wanted to send you some special birthday wishes for today......:grouphug:

Carole, I am so sorry I didn't see this! Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! I am beyond thankful to be healthy to celebrate turning 51! I don't think I will ever again dread a birthday. It certainly gives you a whole new perspective.

It just stinks that your May trip will not happen. Yes, it is not the end of the world, but that doesn't mean it isn't disappointing. Surely by Fall... I keep thinking that anyway!

My husband I got our second vaccines on Friday! Our daughter, who works in a school, is fully vaccinated, and our son-in-law has had his first vaccine. My parents are also due for their second vaccines next week. I am so thankful!

We definitely will not be traveling outside the U.S. anytime soon, but we are still planning our Utah trip for May. I feel very confident, as it is just 3-4 hours of travel and we will be fully vaccinated.

I can definitely understand the mental health issues everyone is noting. Just today my daughter, who is been the staunchest person for COVID safety, said she is just over it. Over wearing a mask all day. Over life just being crazy. I keep telling her it won't be forever. On the other hand, I adore working from home and would gladly do it forever. It will be a sad, sad day when I have to return to the office. I do think this has changed the mindset for remote work, and I anticipate we will be on some type of hybrid schedule this fall, with specific days in the office and specific days at home. I have three more years until retirement from full-time work, and it cannot come soon enough!

Again, thank you for the birthday wishes. The very best to you and yours!!

You`re very welcome Cara......I`m just glad you saw it, I knew you would at some point.

Yes, someone wrote a long time ago, and it stuck....age is a privilege denied to many. And it`s so true......we embrace it now rather than dread it. I`ve lost friends far too young.

But, glad to know you are doing well and you have a Utah trip to look forward to! You`re the 2nd person iin an hour I`ve read going to Utah. One of our friends at the RP is heading back to visit family in April....small world.

I`m sure it`ll be lovely for you and yes, 3-4 hours isn`t too bad a journey. Being vaccinated is a big relief though for you I`m sure. It`s good to hear all your family are on the way to being done. It`s a massive step forward for our lives to return to some kind of normal.

Completely understandable your daughter feels that way.....we all comply of course, but after a year, it is wearing to many.

Hope you get to continue to work from home, it is a blessing to many, and so much more convenient for a lot of people. Yes, even a mix of days would help.

Kyle`s offices will be opening back up from June sometime, and they`ve all rather surprisingly been offered the choice of staying home to work or come back into the office in phases once vaccinated. He is choosing to go back to the office. I`m glad about that as I think at that age, mixing with others is so much better for them. He`s enjoyed his time at home, and coped very well with the restrictions, but is more than ready to go back to work with colleagues and friends.

But, we`re all ok and that`s the main thing......just patiently waiting till we are allowed to travel up to Scotland to see family. That`s tough. And yes, I`m sure international travel will open up eventually......lol....we keep saying that...eventually. No hopes no expectations, then you`re not disappointed too much.

But, it`s lovely to see you and hope you keep well.....don`t be a stranger and looking forward to hearing your trip went very well......take care........

Just cruising around to say hello!!

That's interesting that Kyle's office has already made the decision and is allowing them the choice. Agreed at his age being around people would be great. I'd choose to work from home forever lol but still want to be able to socialize out with friends lol

Small world! I'm going to UT in May too (crossing fingers) to see my son graduate and also hope to go to Moab and see Arches NP. It's a big risk as it is not looking likely I will be able to get even one dose before going because of the glacial pace of vaccines here in Canada, but I really don't want to miss my son's graduation either. I will be the one wrapped in bubble wrap.

Hey Kathy......love to see you stop by! It`s been a long time since everyone caught up.........::yes::

Hope things are going good for you in your part of the world. So many places are doing better than others, it`s hard to keep up with who is doing good and who isn`t with the vaccine situation.

Tom and I are done with our first one, and second one is booked for first week of June....feels good to know first one is down. No idea when Kyle will be done.

Sounds a lovely trip you have planned, and how heartbreaking if you don`t get to see your son graduate. It`s so unfair if you miss it. So, your area is slow with the vaccines or it`s the criteria?? It`s very rare for the UK to be almost tops in something, so we`re all quite proud of the programme here.......over 30 million of us have been done now.

I don`t much about Utah except how beautiful it looks, our friend from the hotel has showed us some exceptionally beautiful pictures from his visits home. It`s somewhere I would love to visit one day.

So, I hope you don`t need that bubble wrap and your trip can go ahead. It`s been too long now for most people. Even the most temperate of people are struggling a little.

Will keep my fingers crossed for you Kathy.....especially with the graduation

Take care....and so good to see you stop by.......:wave2:

Well all things considered..I think Canada is doing ok in terms of cases compared to some others, but the numbers are rising again and it's scary. The vaccine situation on the other hand is...pathetically slow....

Congrats on getting your first dose and at least booked for your second!!! Hopefully Kyle will get his before too long. At least you have a bit of protection now with the first dose.

Yes, Canada in general and Ontario even more so...is very slow with the vaccines. Mostly because Canada doesn't manufacture any domestically so we are relying on the UK and the US for our supply...and it's been unpredictable and unstable. Right now they are mostly doing the 70 year olds and up, with some Astra Zeneca available for the 60's and up...but now....there is some concern about that one so it's paused...so the situation is...just...very slow and frustrating. They have only done about 1 percent of Canada so far...ugh. They still say they hope to offer everyone a first dose before July 1...but at the rate they are going that doesn't look likely...

I don`t much about Utah except how beautiful it looks, our friend from the hotel has showed us some exceptionally beautiful pictures from his visits home. It`s somewhere I would love to visit one day.

Utah really is an incredible place. I never would have visited I don't think if my son hadn't gone to school there so I'm grateful for that. I do really hope to go, but I also hate that it literally could be risking my life to do it, and a whole lot of hassle and hoops to jump through. I most likely will want to do it anyway, because it's really been a hard journey and I wasn't sure I would actually ever see him graduate, so I really want to go, but I'm pretty scared of travelling since I've barely left my house for over a year...like many people...so. We shall see.

Yes, I was confused when I saw the AZ one was being held up for a while for some reason, it`s one of the most common ones being used over here and no issues with it. But, I guess if there`s cause for worry, it`s better to be careful.

I`m surprised at Canada, I expected it to be at the forefront somehow....I had no idea they had only vaccinated around 1%! I did think it would be much more. Hopefully once they get going, they`ll start to run through everyone and you can get on your trip.

It is nice knowing the first one has quite a high protection, but we all look forward to a good portion of the world being vaccinated too.

We have been doing ok with going out. At first yes, I was very nervous, but it soon became just going out....albeit with a mask on. Now, I`m keen for restaurants to open up and we`ll be back going out for meals as soon as we can. I feel more comfortable in a restaurant that`s adhering to good safe practices than I am walking round a mall for some reason....won`t be doing that for a while.

But, will keep fingers and toes crossed it all works out for you with your boy`s graduation.

Congratulations to your son! I honestly think the national parks are as safe as anywhere could be, since you are outside and have more opportunities to socially distance.

We're doing a loop from Salt Lake City (flying in to SLC)->Moab (Arches and Canyonlands national parks)->Capitol Reef National Park->Bryce Canyon National Park->Grand Canyon North Rim->Zion National Park->Vegas (flying home from Vegas).

Hi Carole!!

Hoping things are going well in your neck of the woods! I talked to some family in London and they seemed to think it's looking up so that's good!!! Hoping you are feeling the same!

Hey that's great!! I am planning to go to Moab too specifically for Arches...if time maybe Canyonlands also. Hoping to do that Delicate Arch hike but not sure if I'm fit enough lol...

Hey Kathy.....

Yes, I would say we`re doing a very good job over here with the vaccine programme......being honest, better than I believed in the beginning. It`s being rolled out very well in most areas, and numbers are looking good.

Importantly......hair salons open up next week.......wooooohooooooo!!!!

Now if only travel would open up.....but I think it`s a little further down the line just yet.

Hope where you are is doing well. I don`t know much about Canada right now apart from the occasional comments on here, but hope it`s getting much better.

I think in a few weeks production on the Novovax vaccine starts here in the UK, another fabulous move forward. So much to be positive about for sure.

Hope you`re doing ok :wave2:

The thing that I loved (at least that I heard about) in the UK is that a lot of doctor's offices are calling patients inviting them to come get a vaccine or make an appointment. They are not doing that at all here, and yet I think a lot of people are sitting around thinking that they will get some kind of phone call from their doctors telling them they can now get the shot. Not gonna happen, it's a giant mess!! Also amazing that you will soon have local production.

Hair salons....who hoooooo!! That is exciting indeed. My daughter cut and coloured my hair a couple of months ago and it looks like she will be doing it again soon before this is over.

We are doing ok in general though extremely bored of being locked down.

Exciting news though that I wanted to tell you - my son got accepted at the University of Glasgow! It is going to be such a tough decision because his top three choices are in three different countries and will be a totally different living experience - one is in Vancouver BC, on is in Boston, and Glasgow. I have never been to Glasgow (or anywhere in Scotland for that matter) and nor has my son, and we won't have a chance to visit any of the schools before it's time to move in! Gah!! But anything you can share about Glasgow if you know, or Scotland or anything would be fab. I am also curious about how the whole Brexit thing will affect anything there? I don't know much about it or when changes will really take effect. All I know is that everything is listed in pounds not Euros on the website lol I will have a lot to learn if he ends up going there!

Yes, Tom got a call from our Doctors just days after he made an appointment online with the National Appointment system. He took the doctors office as it was faster and only a 10 minute drive away. I think most of my family have had theirs at their doctors.

Yes, the Novovax production starting up in the North of England is truly magnificent. The numbers of vaccine they’ll be producing is a lot which is good news.

Yes, boredom can creep in for sure......I mentioned once I was bored to someone who is not really a friend, more or a friend of a friend.....and I got the smug reply....”oh we’re never bored” rack off was my answer.....or similar......lol.......

Huge congratulations to your son!!

University of Glasgow is a wonderful institution. I think it’s one of the oldest four in the modern English speaking world and one of the original top four in Scotland along with St Andrews.

Glasgow today is very cultured (in some areas lol) like every city it has its problems. I believe it’s near Kelvinside Park which is lovely. I’m sure most of it is based in the West End of Glasgow, which is nice. It’s been so long since I’ve spent a lot of time in Glasgow. But it’s certainly more cosmopolitan today than it ever was. The Glasgow I remember as a child was a very different place to today, much improved. Shopping is excellent.

It does have a wonderful night life if he’s interested in that. Also beautiful architecture which often gets overlooked compared to Edinburgh.

We, the whole of the UK have left the European Union now, a good thing in my mind. Scotland, their leader anyway is still trying to force Independence for Scotland Which would be a bad thing in my mind. They had a once in a lifetime referendum a few years back and the result was no. But Nicola Sturgeon (aka Krankie) and her party keep banging on about it.....if she told me my name was Carole I’d go check my birth certificate.

There are so many wonderful places to visit in Scotland, it is a gorgeous country, some dodgy places too of course.....but so many within easy reach of Glasgow and they do have a good public transport system.

He won’t see any difference with Brexit having happened. Day to day life is pretty much same as normal.

Things in the UK tend to be more expensive than the US, I don't know the differences in cost compared to Canada of course. But we get ripped off with everything over here....we usually pay for example around $8.50 for a gallon Of fuel. One of the reasons we find everything so cheap in America.

Restaurants too. Portions are more expensive and usually much smaller.

But, he’ll have the best time. They’ll look after international students very well, they have a wonderful reputation. And they’ll be well advised where to avoid, as I said it’s many years since we spent time in Glasgow. All pre covid of course.

Some of my family live close to Glasgow so if there is anything I can answer I will be glad to......but keep us updated, it’s an exciting time for him and you too of course......

But, again, big congratulations to him on his choice.......:wave2:

Hello Carole!

Hello Brenda!!!

So good to see you post......hope things are wonderful with you....

Glad to know you`re getting your shot soon, definitely good news and plans afoot for 2022.....excellent news there too. It`s certainly helpful to have trips planned in our heads right now, even if we can`t go quite yet.

No idea right now about September......I promise not to start a new TR till I know we`re definitely going to make the trip, but unless the USA open up a corridor, it`s highly unlikely right now for September. In saying that, I`ve aready made tentative plans to meet certain folks if we do make it......lol....always the optimist!!

Then we`ll hope for Christmas trip if that one doesn`t pay off. I think most of us need a good break in Florida right now that haven`t been for a while...

And thank you for the lovely compliments.....I do miss writing them too......

Take care :flower3:

Carole!!! 😂😂
Thinking of you and Tom today as I am sitting at Jakes enjoying a quiet cocktail while I wait for my room. I can’t believe how long it has been since you two have been able to be here. Know I’m having a drink in your honor!

Yippee for a trip and a trip report too! I love reading along with you guys and hope one day our paths will cross even though I am quite the Disneyphile. 😁 Maybe we can hook up some time at City Walk - we would have so much to talk about!
