** Picture of the Day 3 **

Before and after pictures today of one of our favorite Texas beach spots...destroyed last night by Hurricane Harvey :sad1::

Yikes!

Sad to say things have gotten worse in Texas. Since Friday morning, we have had 22 1/2 inches of rain; parts of the Houston area received that much rain the last 24 hours. :scared: Many, many homes have flooded; thousands of water rescues; Coast Guard using 14+ helicopters for rooftop rescues; Houston PD has received 56,000 calls for help via 911. Of course, the Houston mayor is being criticized for not issuing an evacuation notice but, as he said, "You can't evacuate over 2 million people". Nightmares of Hurricane Rita in 2005 are still fresh in our minds when the citizens of Houston panicked and took to the roads to evacuate at the same time. The result...18-20 hour traffic jams in all directions leading out of the city. The normal 45 minute trip to our small town of Bellville took 16 hours. DH spent 18 hours helping direct 3 lanes of traffic through our town. While so many are suffering, we're fortunate to have a dry place to lay our heads tonight. A few roof leaks and a little water in our garage but we're staying high and dry. A lot of help destined for the Rockport/Port Aransas/Corpus area is unable to get through the flooded streets of Houston. Last I heard, 10 states are sending help and some are able to get to the area from the north but progress is slow. Predictions call for the rain to continue through Tuesday/Wednesday but the weather people are optimistic that dryer air will move in sooner. If the rain stops tonight everyone will still have to deal with river flooding for at least a week. Our first day of school has been postponed as well as most schools in our area. We're a rural county with 3 major rivers/streams flowing through our county. This is a common scene for us and will remain so for many days...
