Hey everyone! I am so excited to finally be starting my PJ! I have been a member and a professional lurker for a while now, so now that I have concrete plans and the contracts are signed I can begin telling my journey. Let me start by introducing myself and my DF. My name is Vicki and I am a senior at the University of Illinois and Scott is a sophomore at Illinois Central College. Scott and I met in high school and began dating at the end of my senior year so I guess you can consider us high school sweethearts :) Scott asked me to the school formal and the rest was history, from then on we were joint at the hip.

Our Engagement

I wish I had a romantic engagement story to tell you, but me and Scott are really simple people. We bought my ring together and he proposed after it was sized, we never could keep secrets from each other :rotfl:, but that's ok though, that's why we were meant to be .

The Wedding and Reception

Our wedding and reception are both going to be held in our hometown after we have both graduated from our undergrads. The wedding is going to take place on May 29, 2011 at a beautiful historic building by the river in our hometown.

*Edit we moved our wedding location to a theater in my hometown, post is later in the thread, the reception is still at the building listed below :)

Our Disney Connection

In the beginning, Scott and I debated about having our wedding at Disney or on the Disney Cruise Line, but we decided that we could have all of our friends and family at our wedding if we were to have it at home and in the end that's what we decided to do, but we weren't disappointed for long because we decided to have a Disneymoon! We haven't decided if we are going to add a Disney cruise to the honeymoon or not, but we are definitely going to spend at least 7 days in the most magical place on Earth. Scott has been going to Disney since he was a kid and I have been twice, once with my high school band and once with Scott. Disney holds a special place in our hearts and we both knew that's where we wanted to go.

Congratulation on your engagement!! Im glad there are other non disney wedding, just disney honeymoon people on here. The place you are going to have your wedding is really beautiful, I really wish there were really pretty places like that around where I live.

Thanks, it is great to see fellow disneymooners like ourselves. I saw that you are staying at POFQ for your disneymoon, I have never been and I am actively searching for a nice place to stay, I have only ever stayed in the value resorts and the last one I stayed at wasn't very nice. I have been hearing really good things about the moderate resorts so I might choose them, but I am still up in the air. Thanks for the compliment, it took forever to find the perfect venue, I think we checked out 5 places before we found the one.

I have never stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter before, but I have heard a lot of good things about it too so Im excited about that. I dont mind staying at values, and we usually stay there, but since its our honeymoon I wanted to stay at a nicer place. The deluxes were a bit too expensive for us, especially for the time we are going, so we are just going to stay at a moderate!!! It should be fun!

Happy Friday Everyone! So I will start this thread with some ideas I have for the wedding, I will upload a picture of my engagement ring soon, I have to take a picture of it, but here are some pics of what FH and I are thinking for our wedding bands.

I really want this ring or something like it for my wedding ring:

pZALE1-5255558t400.jpg

And FH want's something like this:

p_TW-8FIP_B.jpg

So I haven't picked out my dress or anything, but I am really interested in these two, sorry the pictures are so big:

My bridesmaids dresses are still up in the air as well, but I am really leaning towards these two, the long one for my MOH and the shorter one for my BMs, again sorry for the big pictures, lol

7017.jpg

Our wedding colors are deep purple, black, and silver so we really want to do
black table clothes and chair covers with purple bands:

tabse07_tn.jpg

We've pick these out these for our centerpieces, but instead of the white feathers I want to use black.

So I am very excited because I did a quote for the short Disney cruise that we want to go on before we vacation at Disneyworld and I found out our cruise will be on one of the new ships, the Dream! I hope it will be wonderful, I am very excited. I am still debating about what hotel to stay at when we go to Disney, but from what I heard all of the hotels are good, I am thinking either, Caribbean Beach, AKL, or the Grand Floridian. I definitely want to make this trip special so I am really thinking about doing one of the tours at Disney, it should be fun :)

I could have sworn I replied earlier, but then I remembered, no the board shut down for maintenance when I tried to.

Anyhoo, I love what you've planned so far! Those bridesmaid dresses are lovely.

If we can't afford a boardwalk villa for our stay we're going to stay at POR. It looks so pretty!!

Thanks, DF and I discussed it last night and we are really leaning towards AKL or SSR villa for the Disneymoon. I have heard great things about POR we checked it out last night on the website and it looks so fun, very French New Orleans, which I love, it reminds me of the Princess and the Frog :)

Hi! Joining in popcorn::

Thanks for reading :) I noticed that too! Our plans are very similar, I look forward to hearing more of your plans, what made you decide on your date? We picked ours because it's a 3 day weekend so we could book our wedding on a Sunday at a discounted rate and not have to worry about people having to go to work the next day, lol.

I promised you a picture of my ring so here it is as promised:

I have brought more pictures of my plans, I apologize ahead of time for how big they are, lol, DF and I decided to make up a mock invitation and it turned out so good, that we ordered all the stationary and it came in last week. DF's first name is Daniel by the way, he just goes by Scott his middle name. Here it is:

161.jpg

160.jpg

Our colors are dark purple, black and silver so we decided to incorporate that in the design, DF made the swiggle design on the sides and created the overall look and we both put them together. We ordered samples of the Square Petal Cards and Square envelopes from paperandmore.com and they were $1 each so we we ordered a few in a couple of different colors and finally decided on the metallic black for both the envelope and the petal cards. We ordered the envelopes at about 16.99 for 50 and the petal cards for 36.99 for 50 so it was a pretty good deal. I bought the purple paper from Hobby Lobby during there 50% off cardstock sale for .29 cents each for a 12x12 piece of cardstock that makes four invitations. I bought the ribbon from Hobby Lobby, again during there 50% off ribbon sale, for about $1 a spoon which is enough to make 25 invitations I only needed 4 spoons. We order blank white RSVP paper from cards and pockets and silver metallic envelopes from cards and pockets as well, but we haven't designed those yet so I will post pic when we put the design on them. Since our envelopes are black we can't address the invites by hand so we plan on buying some custom address labels from 123print later on, we are moving soon and don't know what are new address will be, so when I get those I will post those as well. They are a pretty good price there, you can get about 250 labels for $7 and they have many different kinds.

I also bought some Brides save the dates from TJMaxx, they were only $2 a box on sale for 10 of them so I went ahead and bought 7 boxes! lol

169.jpg

While I was at TJMaxx I went ahead and bought some Thank-you cards as well they were $5 for 20. :thumbsup2

One of my bridesmaids and I went to a bridal show a couple of weeks ago and I really took a liking to the lighting that can be done at our venue, so DF and I are debating getting a couple of cans of light to light the reception. Here is a pic of our reception venue with the purple lighting that I like. Sorry about the crappy quality, but our room should look really nice lit up!

140.jpg

139.jpg

My bridesmaid and I also saw a candy buffet display set up and I fell in love! We got to sample the candy and it was so good that I decided that I want one of these as well at the wedding, we will probably do our candy in our wedding colors. Here is the pic of the candy buffet we ate at:

So far I think DF and I are on schedule with booking stuff, we got our venues and photographer booked, I am still looking for a good DJ, but I think I am coming pretty close to finding one. My friend is a cellist and he is playing at the cermony and DF and I have another friend who is a videographer and he is taping the wedding for free as a wedding gift :cool1:

So after reading all the threads about dessert parties it really got me thinking that I want to surprise DF with one or at least a pretty cake, so I have decided that I am going to have a cake made for DF. I plan on booking us dinner at GF and surprising him then. I need some pictures of cakes so I guess I will have to check out the cake chatter thread :thumbsup2

OK everyone, so today I will be posting some of my ideas for the reception. I have so many ideas bubbling in my head I am glad I have the boards to release to, DF can only take so much :rotfl2:

Here is what I am thinking for our cake:

large_image.jpg

I really like purple flowers :)

DF and I decided that we want to do assigned tables at the reception and the tables and escort cards will be themed to our favorite films, because we love movies.

I am going to be making one of these from a template one of my friends sent me.

I have been on the hunt for some purple shoes for the ceremony, but I have had no luck because I were a size 11/12 in flats so if anyone comes across anything please let me know, something that looks like this, but is suede without the stripping, just a plain suede purple:

After doing about 2 hours of research last night about disney hotels, I know I have too much free time on my hands lol, I discovered that POR, SSR, and Boardwalk seem like a very good fit for DF and I know I have to just narrow it down to one, lol. I haven't planned the logistics of our Disneymoon yet, but I know that I want to visit as many restaurants as I can that we haven't seen, like all of the ones at the GF, Ohana, Le Cellier, and some of the AKL's just to name of few. One mistake that we made last time we went was that we didn't do much research on the restaurants last time we went and we took the vacation planners advice on most of the restaurant suggestions, they for the most par,t turned out to big a good experience, but I feel like she led us to a lot more Character dinning experiences than we wanted, which there is nothing wrong with that, but I definitely wanted to go to more romantic places and the most romantic one we went to was The Brown Derby. I definitely want to check out the chocolate place at Downtown Disney this time around as well and I am not sure yet, but we could possibly be seeing Cirque, which would be a really fun experience.

Ok, so I have a couple of updates today, my necklace came in that I want to wear at the wedding. I ordered it from a lady on Etsy, the only thing I don't like about it, is that it is a bit small for my liking, but DF likes it so I guess it should work. Other than that I think it's gorgeous.

I have also started looking into a unity candle and I have been checking out some on Etsy and I really like these two designs

So here is my little rant for today, why is it so hard for vendors to call you back? lol I have been looking for DJs for a few months now and I sent out emails a month ago and no responses! It's like, do you want my money? :lmao: I don't get it and I also had issues with one of my photographers as well it was like pulling teeth to get her to email me back. Ah well, I guess I will have to keep being persistent :thumbsup2

So not too many updates today, but I will get some more of my ideas posted soon I have just been busy with school and work and stuff so laterz :)

I found my bridesmaids necklaces today, courtesy from a lady on etsy :thumbsup2 Gosh I just love that site, you can find everything. I just bought them so hopefully they will get here soon :goodvibes

DF and I were talking today and there might be a possibility of us going to WDW this summer! :woohoo: So that is exciting, I just find it so hard to pass up the deals. So I got some good news today, I got into Grad School! I am very excited I don't know I am going to plan a wedding and go to school at the same time, but I will make it work. I am so excited to be done with my undergrad soon, it's seems like I have been in school forever.

First off, congrats on being accepted to grad school! :thumbsup2 That must be very exciting for you!

And my goodness! You have been busy lately, haven't you? :goodvibes I am totally loving your plans though, and your invites look amazing!

As for the shoes... I am having difficulty finding just plain purple suede! I found some cute satin ones:

http://www.zappos.com/romantic-soles-geneva-purple-satin

But I don't know if you like flowers and what not on them. Hmm! the hunt continues... (I love shopping for shoes! :rotfl:)

I just recently stayed at Port Orleans: Riverside, and I must say the grounds are beautiful! I really loved it there! And a perk about that location is the carriage rides around the property. :lovestruc Oh and the chocolate place in Downtown Disney... Ghirardelli? I looooooove that place! We go there at least once each trip (usually multiple). I am terribly addicted to ice cream. ;)

But loving the updates so far! Can't wait to read some more!

Edit: And oh yeah! Illinois buddies! ;)

congrats on getting into grad school!! What are you going to be studying? Wedding planning and school is definitely difficult, I'm sure you can do it

Wow your plans look amazing so far. As for the dresses, I really love the first one!!! We are staying at POR for our honeymoon and have heard amazing things about it. I wish I had more to add to that but we've never stayed there before either, so hopefully it's as nice as everyone says!!

The BM necklaces you've found are really pretty. I love the jewelry you've posted! :goodvibes

Props to another Illinois bride! Thanks, I am very excited about getting into Grad school. Thanks for looking for the shoes, it's just so hard to find shoes for my big feet  I had know idea POR had carriage rides! That is so awesome I will have to look into it, thanks for the tip :thumbsup2 I totally missed Ghirardelli last time DF and I down there, we were on a time crunch and didn't get to go, a mistake I will not make the next time, lol.

Thanks! I am excited about school I am studying political science for my MA. I plan on applying to law school soon after so it never ends, lol. I am going to be in school until I am 30 :rotfl: I am really fond of the first dress too, though I wish it had less detail, I am looking for a more clean look so I will probably have a seamstress remove some of the beading if I go with that one. I have heard good things about POR just by researching the boards and the pics are beautiful, you will have to let me know how your stay was :)

So not too many updates today. DF and I booked our cake testing and I am really excited about that, we should be doing that on March 12, and I will be so glad to take a break from school for a day to do that, I have been so stressed out lately, lol. There is going to be a wine tasting bridal so on the 7th so I will posting pictures of that soon too. I am still watching the mail for my BM necklaces I hope they are as lovely as the pictures. I bought some toasting flutes from hobby lobby and DF and I are looking into getting our monogram etched into them, I will post pictures of them next time. Other than that not much going on, I have to get to class so I will post again soon :)

Hey Everyone! I got my BM's necklaces a few weeks ago and I am very satisfied with the pendants, but...the choker is just how it sounds a choker :lmao: The necklace is so tight that it wouldn't fit on anyone's neck so I have to order new ones. Other than that they look great. I also decided to make earrings for all the girls since I couldn't find the exact style I was looking for on etsy so here is a pic:
100_1645.jpg

I also promised you girls a picture of my toasting flutes that I bought from Hobby Lobby so here it is:
100_1653.jpg

My FMIL and MOH went with my to a bridal show this past Sunday and we got to check out some really cool vendors. I can't wait to set up some consultations and get the ball rolling. DF and I are going to meet with a florist tomorrow and see what kind of deals we can get. Wish me luck, until next time :)

Hey Everyone! Spring break has started at the University so now I finally have a minute to post some updates. DF and I went to see a florist on Saturday and we decided on everyone's flowers for the wedding! I am going to be holding black magic calla lilies and my ladies are going to be holding on single white calla lily. I am going to have feathers placed on the outside of my bouquet and for the men they are going to have a feather with their mini white calla lily boutonnière. We also booked the chair covers as well and we decided on the black satin covers with the purple satin sashes. It feels like it is starting to come together now. With the announcement of me getting into graduate school I want to get most of the things done for my wedding by the end of the summer. I started a wedding website on wix.com and for all of you who haven't heard of it you should check it out, it's completely free and gives you so many options! It really is a great website. DF and I also went to target to start a wedding registry today and after 3 hours we only got the list half done lol! It was harder than I thought to decide on stuff that we both wanted. We still have to go to Bergners and Bed Bath and Beyond this is going to be quite a long process, lol. Ok that's all for now will be back soon with more updates!

hey! I am joining in! Everything is looking really good so far. I really like your invites. and the cake you guys choose

Thanks:)

Ok, so sometimes I feel like a major basket case, because I keep changing my mind about things all the time, lol! I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but it seems like every time I make a decision about the wedding I change my mind again, I think I need to quite looking at other peoples ideas that may be the problem, lol. Anywho, that was my random blurb, lol. On to the wedding stuff, DF and I have decided we wanted to do a sparkler exit for the wedding. I have seen many pictures of people doing this and it sounds like a great idea. I also decided after searching through countless wedding gowns that I want one custom made and I am probably going to go will Milly Bridal, here is the site: www.millybridal.com. Has anyone used them before? I have heard good thinks on other wedding websites so I think it will be a good idea. I am also in the process of creating a wedding website through wix.com and its really coming along, I will share some screen shots when it is done. I will have more time for wedding planning soon since I graduate in May so way more updates to come :)

Long time no see everyone. I have been so busy with grad school and wedding planning that I have completely been away from the boards, but yesterday I officially booked my disneymoon and I knew it was time to get back to where it all started, the disboards! So where do I begin? For the past 6 six months I have been in heavy wedding planning mode. While trying to balance school, work, and wedding planning I have made many new plans for the wedding and have lots of exciting updates:goodvibes so hear it goes...

Disneymoon

DF and I are staying at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort for a fun filled week of Disney bliss!

I can't wait for this, I booked most of our dining today, but I am totally open for suggestions. So far we have booked Narcossees, Hollywood Brown Derby, Chefs Le France, and so many others. It is my plan to have a surprise cake made for DF. I have been completely stalking the cake chatter thread and I came across this little wonder and I completely fell in love.

I am thinking chocolate cake and peanut butter cup filling

The Myriad of Wedding Plans!

Let me just say that David Tutera is my idol and I watch My Fair Wedding every week. With all of this obsessive research I have created the theme of 1920s/ Old Hollywood fusion or the Art Deco Period. I am in love with this time period everything is so classic and lovely.

art-deco-2-713457.jpg

I was really inspired by The Great Gatsby the character of Daisy is just so lovely I had to incorporate this era into the wedding
