Some kind of new measures are going to be announced this week regarding the cruise industry it was announced yesterday.

It WILL NOT be a shutdown but something else.

Here in Florida, Sunday is the day all of the ships leave for their week long trips. ALL ships are leaving as scheduled from Port Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami so that's how we know it won't be a shutdown.

And maybe they will if asked one a one off basis. But it would hit the business too hard to announce that outright.
It's not about them. These are different times and businesses are going to have to adjust. Maybe a credit card perk could be if you cancel we refund the money.

I actually got an email from royal saying if you continue on with your cruise as planned we will be getting on board credit to use.

So they are actually rewarding people if they continue with their plans.

This is a fluid situation - every day brings new cases, new outbreaks and NEW RESPONSES

If the cruise industry keeps having issues, they WILL be shut down for a while

We will see how much it spreads in the next two weeks with everyone returning from cruise ships and other vacations

Expect the number of confirmed cases to skyrocket this week as 3 millions new tests kits are delivered, distributed and ready for use on Monday Morning.

I am saying this week they wont be shutting down or they would of never let them all go today.

And if it skyrockets to 3 million it is what it is. I am not worry wart my life continues as normal.

People who are not symptomatic but are VERY infectious for at least 2 weeks prior = equals a high spread rate of the virus before anyone has a clue they have it

This is why it’s a VERY serious and dangerous virus and because of that the response will be more extreme in the attempts to slow down the rate of transmission

As Gov Cuomo said yesterday when enacting A State of Emergency in NY, 80% of those infected will be fine, 20% may need hospitalization

NYC has 8.5 million people living very close together, a fast spreading virus could easily infect thousands in a very short amount of time

This is an older stat but the city has 62 active hospitals, with a combined capacity of 26,451 beds. SOURCES: IBO; New YorkState Department of Health, with about 65% of beds currently occupied under normal circumstances

That estimate would leave about 9,275 beds empty at any given time

If Just 2% of NYC’s 8.5 million residents get infected that would be 170,000, and if 20% of those patients need hospitalization that would be 34,000 seriously ill patients for 9.275 beds !!!

Do the math

But they wouldn't be all infected at the exact same time? Sure it would spread fast but the odds of needing that many beds on the exact same day (or week, or even month) is a stretch...

FWIW...I just read that the soap dispensers in the bathrooms are frequently empty. Just ordered some soap leaves for our trip in May and for local use. Will also keep paper towels in my bag. Have a RO reservation and will make a judgement call late Apr.
I can say this is absolutely true and I am here now. I have been pretty surprised at the lack of soap, even in the mornings (I can understand it being low by 7p)

Don’t base our prior experience on possible future results, We don’t know what we don’t know & because this is brand new even to the experts

It is very possible it could spread extremely fast, just like the Spanish Flu, and in 1918 Philadelphia was one big city that did nothing, until it was too late.

Other big cities that took the flu seriously and enacted precautions and didn’t suffer the way Philly did...

The 1918 Parade That Spread Death in Philadelphia.

In six weeks, 12,000 were dead of influenza. ... “In the streets of downtown Philadelphia 200,000 people gathered to celebrate an impending allied victory in World War I.

Within a week of the rally an estimated 45,000 Philadelphians were afflicted with influenza.”

Would you? Keep in mind you have a life outside the cruise. All it takes is a couple of instances and you could be quarantined and will your employer be understanding. Think twice about this. My heart goes out to all involved.

I personally wouldn’t - medical workers and first responders that had casual exposure to a just ONE known infected person have been placed on a 14 day self quarantine

One man who was infected while on a cruise ship and has been interviewed in tv several times, is currently at the end of his 14 day quarantine.

His last test on Saturday came back negative. but now he needs 3 additional test with negative results, administered every 24 hours to be released from quarantine.

If just one of those tests come back positive the 14 day quarantine clock restarts !!!!

Then the poor man and his wife has been receiving death threats, so is it worth being kept from your home for so long ???

Final decision has not been made yet if I am going on my cruise or not. It's not until May so that is still being debated with the family. BUT...... we are still going next week on our Disney World trip as planned, we are all still going to our jobs and schools etc... That's what I mean when I said I will continue my daily life as normal.

This brings up another very interesting point. How many people will have symptoms (and even the virus) and will decide not to get any medical help for this reason alone. Afraid of getting in the papers and in the news and getting threats.

I would bet that will be a very very high number.

If a hospitalization is required for severe cases, it is likely the patient will require hospitalization for at least 1 week—unless they die sooner.
Just look at the number of infected every 3 days, it’s almost double in new outbreaks.
Also, it’s not like all the beds are made available just for Cov patients. On any given day, the typical ICU is 2/3 full and the ER has a wait time of about 2.5 hours—unless you’re about to die.

The hope is no one in the 20% hospitalization group gets pneumonia complications. Even if you fully recover from Cov-related pneumonia, you’ll end up with scarring in your lungs.

We decided to actually add two members to our trip as we are thinking like many things only get worse in the upcoming weeks. My wife is a teacher and she believes they will eventually shut down schools, and will go to school later in the summer. For now, we are flying down Saturday for some warm weather and good food.

FDNY Firefighters Told Not To Respond To Cases Involving Coronavirus Symptoms

The FDNY is telling its firefighters not to head out on calls that might put them in contact with the coronavirus. The job will fall solely on EMS workers.

Amtrak To Halt Non-stop Train From D.C. To New York City Amid Coronavirus Panic. Bad news for the East Coast Elites. Amtrak announced that it will be suspending non-stop Acela service between Washington, D.C., and New York City for the next few months due to decreased demand caused by panic over the coronavirus.
